Benadryl - Which one to take to help sleep

I've heard a lot of people have used Benadryl to fall asleep.

I just went to the pharmacy and bought :

Benadryl Allergy relief - Contains Acrivastine 8mg
Benadry One a day relief - Contains Cetrizine dihydrochloride 10mg

Which one would better put me to sleep, or are they both equally as good?

Thanks

The one with diphenhydramine

Or go with some chlorotest & dopadex. Add in some melatonin and you will have deep restful sleep

think I just wasted my $, neither have that ingredient in. Brilliant.

What kind of dose of melatonin, ive read 0.1-0.3 is the optimal. So I guess breaking a 1mg tablet in half?

Lol way too low, I go up to five grams and some even consider that a low dose

I've been reading a lot of studies which state melatonin is infinitely more effective when dosed at .1 to .3mg as opposed to 3mg plus.

You disagree with this?

You just have to see what dose works for you. Its harder to find melatonin below 1mg. Most are 3-5mg caps.

0.5 mg (sublingual) has worked better for me than higher doses.

That's what I do. Douglas Labs, Source Naturals and Ortho Molecular all make 1 mg sublingual tablets that can be split and dissolve quickly under the tongue.

I was reading a study on this recently above 3mg seemed to increase the times per night a person woke up. I'll try to find it I think it was a journal at work.

Ahhhh, so a normal 1mg tablet isnt the same as a 1mg sublingual tablet? So is there no point me putting a regular tablet under my tongue?

I'm not sure. You might have problems with it dissolving (depending on the binders that were used)...or it might work fine. I would try it and see before buying something else.

Defiantly go with the melatonin.

In response to the benadryl both you purchased are non drowsy.

For insomnia:
0.3-5 mg at bedtime is a typical dose.

Thank you.

Would you combine this with valerian root? I was thinking of picking up Kalms One a night sleeping pills to combo it with (385 valerian root), or take melatonin solo?

I always recommend to my patient to test tolerance with one medication at a time. You can't get a good gauge of effects using two or more things together. Plus its harder to narrow down side effects and which medication they are caused by. This is especially with meds like anti-psychotics and such. It really gets under my skin when docs jump people from one to the other with no taper. Really messes folks up sometimes.

I havent slept properly in a month. The last 2 days I havent slept, period. maybe an hour each night. I NEED to sleep tonight. I sleep awfully. I can get ahold of melatonin and valarian root, and anything not subscription from a pharmacy. I just need something to put me to sleep, even knock me out.

If you have any recommendations I'd really appreciate it.

Go with the melatonin if you never have used it before it should do the trick. Melatonin is a hormone so it should work more directly than the root.

I added melatonin 2mg to my g8 last night and couldnt sleep. I took 1mg melatonin a week ago or so and it didnt really help.

Do you think just taking 3g of melatonin will be sufficient? or combining 3mg melatonin with valarian root?

At this stage all im looking for is 4+ hours sleep so I can function tomorrow. The last 2 nights have been hell

The Standard dosage for Children is 5mg Nightly. Try that with your G8. Is stress a factor in this?

Definitely start low on the melatonin and adjust. I can't take it as it makes me a miserable, moody piece of crap the next day. Others love it.

I am surprised by the ingredient profile in G8 because the mood elevation blend would have me buzzing for hours. L-tyrosine is very energizing.

I've been to a doctor and all they do is give me scripts, which are extremely harmful long term.

Sups, laxogenin + edcy
And a test booster.

All dosed at 9am

Was this happening before you started taking those supps? Maybe go to a sleep specialist or a therapist to find if there's an underlying issue.

Personally, alcohol makes me wake up more.

Also, I wouldn't entertain attempting that as a permanent solution. It doesn't take long before one glass doesn't do it, then two, etc.

Just my 2¢

I agree with RegisterJr on the alcohol bit. Definitely not a permanent solution for sleep but a glass of red it great for overall health. As far as the benadryl that is the right kind but again you are going to take it and hope for a side effect of the medication to put you to sleep. It doesn't always work on everyone. It sounds to me like there might be some other factors that haven't been mentioned. What time of day do you workout. How is the stress in your life? Are you able to have sex before bed? Have you tried warm milk?

try working out earlier in the afternoon. Your body might not want to wind down

I've taken up to 100mg of diphenhydramine/night. But works best for me is 3mg of melatonin. I've taken melatonin with diphen. but slowly dialed back the diphen. Melatonin alone works best for me, and I'm on a high tren cycle. I used to wake up 3-4 times/night and the melatonin makes me sleep through.

the problem with alcohol at night is when it's all metabolized, the body gets low blood sugar, sending an adrenaline spike which can wake people up. That said, I drink often and melatonin trumps all that
