Why some supplements peform excessively & others have no effect?
Have been strength training for a year. First six months were no supplements. Good routine/diet/rest. Typical results.
As weight increased I started trying some supplements to further increase workout capacity:
BCAAs(like in the old days) no effects except perhaps less soreness. Could be tied to other factors as well.
Tried L-Carnitine for cardio days. Works well. No negative side effects. About 15ml(one tablespoon) of the 1500 liquid version. Much energy.
Tried Creatine. Felt wonderful during workouts. Loaded slowly so no bloating. Much focus-perhaps it was other ingredients in the mix as it was BF's version and they add other items. L-Arginine, Taurine, etc.
So far so good....
Tried some Aspartic Acid for one month with no results.
Tried Beta Alanine twice. 500mg along with a low dose of Citrulline Malate. Had too much nervous energy. See my older postings here for details. Had to stop and I was using considerably less than typical for my weight which is 175lbs. It was explained in that post that BA can have effects on certain people. Well, I am one of those.
Then tried RJ100 Tongkat Ali once, about 135mgs. Felt like I was on cocaine without the rapid heart rate. Insane and uncontrollable amount of energy. I was unstoppable for about 5 hours. Felt like those Beserker Vikings you read about or see on TV. This is also less than typical dosage for my weight.
I have to ask if any of you have had similar excessive reactions from supplements. Usually these are pre-workouts. I admit to being leery of stimulants now due to what has occurred above in the two last instances. I just do not read here cases where a stim/supp was too much for the user unless an excessive amount is taken or mixed with other components. - 04-08-2013, 01:30 PM
you are going to react differently to differen compounds, especially if you dont know the dose you are getting in a product because of a prop blend, so yuo have to experiment and find out what works for you

The three instances of questionable, negative and no result were bulk powders. All from good vendors at least according to their feedback profile here and other sites.

Lots of supplements on the market dont meet label claims. Also a lot dont work to begin with.

^^^Beta alanine did work for me. Only too well. Unusually high energy levels continued beyond the workout session and were then triggered the next morning after a cup of coffee. I took a small dosage-500mg. I did not mind the energy post-workout but the jitters after a cup of coffee the next day made me discontinue use. I am referring to supra-heightened energy levels not the skin prickling sensation.
No anxiety issues to the best of my knowledge.
^^/^I have returned to the old fashioned routine of quality food and amino acids. - 04-08-2013, 03:29 PM

i've used it for months at a time, not bulk but in products....but even with the dimimished tingles, i still get a funky headache type feeling, not worth it in my experience....someone couldn't give me bulk beta alanine for free....its one thing i always prefer being underdosed in products

I should mention the Tongkat Ali made me defecate like a grizzly bear. Adrenalin release I suppose. I took a very small dose. 135mg.
Similar occurred with the next day jitters after using BA the previous evening. I drank some coffee for breakfast and then BAM! Tons of nervous energy and the need to defecate.
I searched the old threads and have not read of that response. Did find out from reading that adrenalin surge stimulates bowel movements.
I imagine what a serving of Jacked or similar would do to me. - 04-09-2013, 03:30 PMMolecular Nutrition - Unlevel The Field

I've taken BA 3-6 grams a day for like the last 6 months, i rarely notice the tingles, depends how much food i ate and i've never noticed any energy from it. I take so many supp though i wonder what it would feel like to just completely stop for a month maybe my intermittent brain fog and my sometimes manic-depressive feelings would go away lol.

The thought of experimenting with your body is not cool. Man, stay clean and your body will thank yourself. After all you are taking a good natural supplement for the prostate is the best advice you can get. Read a couple of super beta prostate reviews to familiarize yourself with what's out there. Experimentation is risky so protecting the prostate is important.
