Read post #4 (yes, applies to both sexes): New to forum, need advice....trying to lose weight....
And DON'T focus on losing WEIGHT, but on losing FAT. You want to preserve as much muscle mass as possible, whilst losing fat effectively; that should be your goal (since you may NOT need to or have 20lb of FAT to lose).
