    It's always been the same for me. Well actually, more or less since I hit age 22. You know how they say one body, one mind? Not in my world. That saying is tossed in with the other bull **** sayings that hold no meaning to me. For me it's a constant internal battle of wills. My mind against my body. My girl hates it, my body folds and here we are.

    I recently injured my back again. Previously, I herniated L4 and L5, lost 10% disc height and have spinal stenosis, which is narrowing of the spinal column that puts pressure on the spinal cord itself. Fast forward to present day and I'm currently dealing with a bulging disc at L5 and a compression fracture at T12. Without getting too deep into the anatomy of it all, your spine in the lumbar region should present with a specific curvature that has it sitting anteriorly to certain vertebrae within the thoracic column. Mine is essentially straight, resulting in my lumbar region sitting directly on top of itself. The disc or more specifically the anulus fiber has torn and is "bulging"/protruding anteriorly (towards the front), resulting in the posterior portion of L5 & S1 to be directly on top of each other. Meaning that there is no disc to absorb compression at L5 and S1 posteriorly. The good news is the nucleus is still intact. At times got have to take the good news as it comes and drown the bull **** out with positivity. I met with an athletic trainer, PCP and chiropractor all rolled into one and have been told I have a 40-50% betterment rate, so by the end of treatment I will be 40-50% better than when I walked into his office including the curvature of my spine being improved upon.

    My initial impressions of the practitioner and his staff are very good and I'm a pain in the ass. I'm very hard to impress or even satisfy .

    The game plan:

    Practitioner:
    3-4 weeks of being seen 2-3 times a week for stretches, exercises, decompression, traxtion, adjustments and a few other electronic muscle activation techniques. What we're trying to accomplish is to improve upon my lordotic curvature to get the spine functioning correctly. The curvature of my spine is the reason I've been injuring myself during deadlifts and squats. Now, it would've been nice if the spine specialists I went to for my herniation had mentioned that instead of giving me an epidural and doing non sense bull **** rehab. I digress, the guy I'm seeing now within two appointments has my trust. Per my new practitioner, I will be back in the gym, next week or the week after. Knowing me, I WILL be back in next week. People spend thousands of dollars on head shrinks, I spend 30 a month for iron therapy.

    I've been swimming laps to try and minimize a sedentary lifestyle. Being sedentary drives me crazy. I have a set list of stretches that need to be accomplished twice a day, I will probably do them 3-4 times depending on how my back feels.

    I will update my activity regimen when I can get back into they gym. I have it all on Excel so it should be easy enough.

    (Diet)
    200 g of protein.
    80-100 g of fat
    Fill with carbs to reach my daily caloric goal.

    (Supplements)

    I have a certain supplements that I use religiously. I still cycle off of them in some sort of fashion but I use these very frequently:

    Workout days only:
    Agmatine 1 g
    Citrulline Malate 6g

    Everyday:
    Creatine 1g/day

    For studying:
    SNS Focus XT
    SNS ALCAR

    I sometimes also rotate in:
    Fish Oil (Carlson Liquid)
    5 HTP
    Melatonin
    ZMA

    New additions:
    CONQU3R
    DermaStrength

    I haven't had the chance to use the CONQU3R as much as I'd like to due to my injury but it basically takes my bulk stack and puts it all into one, which is bad ass!

    I'm Italian and Spanish, I LOVE FOOD! When I'm not injured and supposed to be laying on my stomach all day, I will post homemade recipes from Italy and Mexican food (New Mexican style) along with all my other concoctions. I'm a food and nutrition major and love to cook so... Right now, my diet is pretty plain due to school load and pain issues.

    In addition to food porn, I'll be adding music links in. I love music more than I love food. Expect anything from trance/dub/electronic, and Hip Hop, to Metal.

    Anyways, thanks to whom I consider a friend, the owner of OL ( @Olympus Labs ), I will be initiating a damage protocol starting today of DermaStrength. He's also got a few other goodies en route to me that should be lined up for my long awaited return to the Iron Church. I'll be posting up a log or review in the supplement section as well, I put this here because I will be running a handful of different things along my journey and this will serve as my overall log throughout the different things I will be using.

    Now it's time to go play some video games with junior and study for summer mid terms Saturday.

    Oh ya, real quick just in general, I wanted to add a thought in diet/diets. Diets for new trainers can be difficult to navigate and somewhat confusing. My best advice is to focus on protein. A lot of the diets now-a-days are very carb or fat focused, which one is good or bad etc. One thing that I've noticed is that when people focus on one specific macro they tend to weight that macro too much. Focus on eating protein, protein, protein. Protein is probably one of the more inadequate macros in diets. It's also harder (for most) to eat sufficient amounts of protein than carbs or fats. I'll be updating this thread with my blog info as well from time-to-time.

    If anything use this log as inspiration. Don't be too heavily focused on supps. Don't be an intermittent workout type that only exercises when they purchase a new supplement. Results are hard to reach, you have to put in the work, don't sell yourself short by not putting in the work. In the end, the only one you will have to blame or credit is yourself. How badly do you want to reach your goals? If ANY of you have questions, feel free to post them up. I don't know everything, not even close so if you have advice please contribute as well.

    I started lifting at 117, a scrawny senior in high school. I drank the weight gain shakes, I killed the gym, I got up to 195 naturally. If I can do it, you can too! Don't make ****ing excuses! Questions are certainly welcome here but no excuses. No one has ever achieved **** by making excuses, EVER!

    First DermaStrength application applied. TD matrix is bad ass, dried is less than a minute. Smells great, applied with a nitrile glove, and threw a shirt on, done deal. I'll keep everyone updated on anything worth noting in regards to DermaStrength itself.

    Today's PT has been executed twice will probably do it a few more times in between quizzing myself and gaming some Lego Harry Potter.

    Today is my first day back in the gym. Needless to say, I can't wait, I just have to remember to take it easy. As easy as that sounds, it just isn't. I remember reading a thread and someone talking about inner demons. Yeah, I have a few of those and the gym or Iron Church as I call it is where I get all that stuff out.

    I just went into my doc and he said that my back is coming along at a ridiculously fast pace. More than likely due to my aggressiveness with the exercises/stretches and going in 3x a week rather than 1-2.

    On Saturday night we went and saw that new Firefighter Planes movie and the little dude loved it! He has been having a hard time not rough housing with Daddy and while we were walking out of the theater we started pushing each other around a little and I felt a pop. I'm 99% sure the pop was the bulging disc popping back in. After my injury my back had been feeling like it needed to pop. With the stretches and the way I torqued to push the little man helped fix the old back lol

    Today's workout will be Chest and Tri's. I still need to modify my workout a bit but will probably do this on the fly, I don't know if I'll get around to updating my Excel sheet yet. On the agenda for the day is cleaning up a bit, knocking out some Hdub

    Thoughts:

    I had a few beers on Saturday, I need a few beers every now-and-then lol! I hold myself to such strict standards that it starts to eat at me. I get mad at myself when I get any grades below a 96% lol, which is ridiculous. My girl gets mad at me, but I can't help it. It's the perfectionist in me, while it does seem to help me out quite a bit to achieve the best I can, it definitely can be a very self-defeating habit. I'm a work in progress though. I'm not perfect despite my degree of trying to hold myself to the level of perfect. I'm not even close to perfect, in fact, I would say that striving for perfection is likely one of my best and worst qualities. It may lean a little to the worst side every once in a while but like I said, I'm working on it. For me, it's important to not only build myself up aesthetically but also mentally.

    I try to be the most well rounded individual I can be, which includes being self-aware and recognizing such flaws to accept them and try to get better. This helps hold myself accountable. Some people don't like to be held accountable, I thrive on it. I like to get better at everything, complacency drives me CRAZY!!! Some people also just tell you what you want to hear to stroke your ego. I don't do this lol, another trait that drives my girl crazy, I can't keep quiet. In my constant effort to better myself, I try to bring people with me so if they ask me for my opinion I give it to them. I'm outspoken, it's the italian in me I guess. I've been told I come across abrasive or kind of as an ass, that's okay to me. There are many people out there that I have helped out quite a bit, I've literally talked people off the ledge, reached in the mouths of people to pull the pills out, and so on. To me, there is an inherent difference between being an ass hole to be mean or rude, and to come across as an ass hole with good intentions. My intent isn't to hurt people's feelings or to belittle them at all, ever. I'm not that guy, my intent is to help people realize within themselves, what I found within myself in some of the darkest times of my life.

    I don't brag, I rarely talk about myself around others and usually just listen to what they have to say. I think my reasoning for this is due to the path that I've walked. I've personally been belittled to a pretty harmful extent while growing up by friends and some very close to me. The one's that were close to me is likely not a fault of their own however, some people just can't help it. Back on track, when you grow up being harassed or verbally abused it takes a pretty big toll on you and in my opinion you have a few ways to go, you can either give in and think horribly of yourself or you can look deep within, find out who you really are and not worry about what people say. I have a little boy to look after and be a role model for, so I had no choice but to rise above and find myself. Getting away from it all was really good for me and joining the military is one of the best things I have ever done. It got me out of my surroundings and I was able to really learn who I was and to see the potential in myself. All my SGT's put me in leadership positions because they saw in me a command presence or natural role as a leader and from then on I kinda just stepped into who I am now. I'm grateful for that.

    Wow, TL;DR hahaha! The whole topic of this post was supposed to be that it's good to let your hair down every once in a while. I'm slowly learning this. I'm slowly learning to let myself just "be" haha! I have to fly my little dude home Friday, which completely blows and is always a hard time for me. He is going to summer camp to brush up on his mandarin chinese before returning to school. This has definitely been an epic summer and we had a blast.

    When I get back on Friday, to keep my mind off of things we're going to go hit up Maya Day and Night Club out here. They host the sickest parties and pool parties EVER and one of my all time favorite DJ's will be there - Seven Lions! It is going to be amazing! It's funny because while I come across as all work no play, when I do play, I play hard, I'll post up some pics of Friday night etc.

    Overall the workout felt really great, good mobility, no feelings of impingement, and my pump was great =). I went a little heavier with triceps work as I was able to do so without activating my lower back too much. I'll try to continue along like this for the remainder of the week and into next week. I'm going to try and force myself not to push it. This doctor is a miracle worker and I don't want to negate my progress by being a knucklehead.

    The only thing I took tonight was Agmatine. I also have OL DS on deck applied in the morning and will continue to gauge/monitor my progress/results with this as I go. As explained in my supp log for DS it's still too early to expect anything.

    I probably won't be doing any more posts or updates until Friday night after I drop my kiddo off. These next few days are going to be rough. He cried himself to sleep tonight because he doesn't want to go. Being a dad is hard lol when your child it hurts it easily hurts you as much if not more. The plan for the next few days is to just have daddy son time without distractions. I'll still be going to the gym etc but won't be updating. I'll be back Friday after I drop him off for the simple fact that I'll need a distraction until Seven Lions.
