Gators vs Buckeyes

Well Monday is almost here and I am estatic to see the Buckeyes make it to the MNC game. I am posting to get everyones thoughts... Most of my friends think this is going to be a really close game and I tend to agree.

I am predicting 27-21 Buckeyes.

I think Percy H. will score,I think Tebow runs one in, and I think Wynn gets in the endzone. I also think UF will miss 2 field goals.

For the Buckeyes

Gonzo will score, Chris Wells, and Brian Robiskie will get TD's. I think we will go 2-3 for FG's.

OSU will also win the Turnover battle 3-2.

There is just something about this Gator team that scares the piss out of me. I have the upmost respect for Myer and I know his team will be amped!!!! I also think Troy will just not allow his team to lose.... Much like VY last year.

I have to get my thoughts out on the Bucks last appearance in a title game before I can comment on this one.

Even then - I'll probably keep my thoughts to myself.
No use in spewing venom at either/both fan base at this point. I'm getting too old for that...

Suffice it to say, I'll be watching. I'm hoping that it isn't a blowout - those aren't fun (unless your team is winning).

JMH yeah I bet the PI call still stings for sure from that game. I know it has been BEAT TO DEATH from both fan bases whether it was a good call or not. I personally think it was not a good call, I am not saying there wasn't contact, I am saying how do you call that. I also think the game should have never gone into OT when Chris Gamble caught the first down...hahaha wow going down memory lane for no reason.. Sorry

I think just like in 2002 Florida thinks they have too much speed for Ohio State and that there is no way we can keep up. I think Florida will be suprised by our speed honestly. I think the thing that will keep Florida in it is that they might be more hungry for it. Since we have had recent success and everyone is saying how great we are etc... We will see, here is hoping for HUGE Buckeye win so I can relax and enjoy the game, but it will be a 4 quarter game.

If I had to contrast this game with pre-game in '02 - I'd say you guys are like Miami.
EVERYONE and their brother is expecting a win by the Bucks. And that's even amongst the TON of SEC fans that I work with/talk to.
Seems like most of us Miami fans expect you guys to win.

It'll be interesting to see you guys playing with the bullseye on your backs this time.

BTW - on that play in the 4thQ, it was a bad call - Gamble caught it in bounds. But - there was a delay of game on that play. The ball was snapped to Krenzel when the clock read 00 for 4 to 5 stills on my vcr.
Back 'em up 5 yards and see if Coker/Shannon learn their lesson and blitz on 4th and 19. (I'm skeptical on that - after all, it is Coker...)

You are one of a very, very few Buckeye fans that will admit some form of "yeah - it was a bad call" or shouldn't have been called relative to how that game was officiated, etc. Most want to justify. Which is just beyond stooooopid to me and the vast majority of folks I've talked to (most of my good buddies are Vol fans mostly - and hate Miami - most of my co-workers are SEC folks).

I don't really understand the "speed" argument except maybe in the LB spot. I guess Teddy Ginn doesn't have Olympic-class speed. I guess Troy isn't great at scrambling out of trouble.

For me, the game comes down to the lines and the secondaries. I haven't been greatly impressed with the OSU db's since 02. There's always one good corner and one good safety, but that's it. The pass rushers and the LB's just make them look better, IMO. I think we have the better QB and the better running game, but none of that matters if the line doesn't hold up.

Pretty sure you have the better pure running game.
UF will have to do it with Harvin and Teebow.

I think you have an advantage at QB - but I think most Bucks are underestimating Leak. He's not a bad QB in the least. Not great - but not as bad as I've read.

Maybe Teebow makes a freshman mistake. Or - maybe he runs over Lauranities for a TD. Who knows with him.

im hoping for an OSU blowout. i was in tempe the last couple days and OMG, its a huge sea of red. every bar on mill ave was playing hang on sloopy. it was awesome!!! i almost got into a couple fights with gator fans(i was totally wasted) cause so much trash talking was going on. it will be similar to a home game for OSU. i was there for miami/OSU in '02 (sorry jmh) and the crowd advantage plays a favorable role. i would say OSU fans outnumber gator fans about 8:1.

HULK'S prediction: 28-31 OSU in a game winning field goal!

Not taking my feelings into account about the sea of total RETARD OSU* fans (majority of you folks on here notwithstanding...but it's like when a group of you folks get together, you get REALLY stoooooooooopid - or maybe it's just because I'm an engineer that graduated #1 in his college class - yet I digress) I think Florida wins.

A few things working againtst OSU* - the QB Heisman jinx (only Leinart has won and they had a SUPERIORLY talented team - not the case in this game), not battle tested NEARLY as much as FLA, and everyone and their brother nationally is picking them to win (Troy sure seemed hella confident on ESPN a little while ago).

FLA has a tricky sorta offense (mainly because they don't have a good RB for their system, IMO). They do some odd stuff w/ Harvin and then there is Teebow.
I'm starting to change my mind on Teebow - I think he'll become a good QB (the boy still needs to learn to slide though). I think he makes a big play or 2 tonight.
OSU* hasn't seen anything all that tricky in a big game this year. Michigan and Texas certainly ain't that creative.

Gates can block some kicks/punts. Probably the best in the biz this year. I LOVE that.

Both teams have good return men - Ginn is better though.

Alright enough analysis with my head.

Now - taking my personal feelings into account (AM guys don't take offense - not directed at my good brothers of iron) - it's time for the Devil to collect a portion of his due that SweaterVest used for that '02 title.
Mark it down - there will be a HUGE call that is bogus/suspicious will go against the Bucks.
I'm not saying that call will hand FLA the game (as '02) - but something BIG.

Alright - I've said enough.
Time for a good, clean game fellas.

I'm not even really watching the game anymore. I've moved on to A) downloading porn, B) bracing myself for the barrage of "SEC is THE best" statements about 5 billion times (followed shortly by "LSU will beat EVERYONE else in the US besides UF" - forgetting that they are QB'ed by JaMarcus and coached by Larry Coker Jr.) at work, and C) waiting for the meltdown on the OSU* board(s).

It couldn't honestly happen to a nicer fan base.
I mean - honestly.

I conceded at the half. Florida did everything right where OSU did everything wrong this game, coaches and players. I don't like UF's offense, but it worked.

All in all, I can't complain much about this year. I just wish we would have put up some sort of fight tonight. Now it's time to follow the final days of recruiting and see who stays and who goes from Pittman, Ginn, and Gonzo.

Am I the first then? Ok lets try it. The SEC is THE best, obviously. LSU will beat everyone in the US, and probably Florida on a neutral field, certainly at Tiger Stadium. And I won't forget Jamarcus when he's drafted #1 by Oakland or somewhere in the top 5, maybe Cleveland. Les Myles (and his staff) are top notch. Contrast the adjustments made at halftime in the Sugar Bowl vs NFL super genius Charlie Weiss.:clap2: I applaud my self :clap2: oh there I am again. Seriously go UF, I do feel bad for Troy Smith. He'll be great on Sundays.

Or - we see what happens with good refs?
I dunno. It's late and time for my bed.

Kudos to the Gates. Helluva performance.

Seeing some crying Buckeye chick just made all those "Cryami" posts end.

This has to be THE WORST Heisman performance in a bowl game period (nevermind championship game) EVER.

OSU*'s performance should go down w/ Miami's '92 stinker against Alabama as the worst by a #1 team (FLA wasn't #1 when they got blown the f*ck out by Nebraska in '95).

How far does this drop Smith in the first round? Seriously.
First good D with real speed he faces - and has this performance.

Hearing "for the 2nd time" is sorta funny. I guess they got some tradition up therrrre in G-ville, huh?

Lol, I almost came on and posted the same thing, glad I didn't. What an ugly game, OSU's line looked awful, which lead to troy smith looking awful, on top of gator wide receivers having some ungodly large holes in the osu D. I def underestimated the gators and many others did, but even disregarding florida's d, worst game I have seen OSU play in the last two years as far as dumb mistakes and bad plays.

BOISE STATE FOR NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!

as much as i hate to say this, congrats to the gators. they outplayed the bucks in every possible aspect of the game. i knew myer was a great coach after seeing what he did with utah but i thought tressel was just as good. wow, this was disproved tonight. good job florida, no one can create controversy now since they definitely deserve the title of national champs. hopefully, we'll be back next year with a better showing in the bowl game.

EDIT: its become a trend that the underdog wins this game. 4 out of the last 5 were underdogs. OSU in '02, LSU in '03, texas in '05, and now florida.

I gotta give the Gates credit for knowing when to get rid of a bad coach.
Canes beat the Gators in the '05 Peach - they do the right thing and get rid of a sorry-azz coach (Zook - but damn good recruiter as Meyer will tell ya....) - and we give Coker an EXTENSION.

Maybe I should be mad at the athletic director instead of Coker...
Anyway - I can't help but wonder what was.

Congrats Gators - you guys showed what a good coach can do against the Bucks.

Florida has a new recruit coming next year from around my area named joe haden, I read kid is like 5'10 190 but supposedly runs a 4.3 and benches like 380. Played qb but they are moving him to a receiver/ATH, might be like having two Harvins out there...just the thought of that gives me (and jim tressel) nightmares

Nope.

I think they'll be scary with a REAL running back and Meyer's type of QB.
Think about it - they really don't have a spread option guy at QB (that's supposed to be Teebow) nor a true RB.

I'm hoping Craig Cooper (a burner at RB from Memphis) sticks with Miami - he'd be DEADLY on that offense.

Speaking of Urban - I'm seriously wondering if he takes a job with the NFL now. Seriously.

did you guys see leak and myers and the post game press conference? they are real stand up guys and very humble! makes me feel a little easier about them winning. im thinking troy smith needs another year in college before entering the draft after that performance but his time is up. ginn being hurt really allowed them to cue in on smith and he choked(more importantly, the O-line choked) under floridas speed defense.

yeah, gonzales and robiskie are both solid receivers, but when you need 3 or 4 scores in a quarter or two, you need a home run threat, which they lost when ginn went down, and a big play on special teams or d, which OSU didn't even come close to having.
1st Downs 24 6
Total Yards 372 82
Passing 213 35
Rushing 159 47
Penalties 6-50 5-50
3rd Down Conversions 10-19 1-9
4th Down Conversions 2-2 0-1
Turnovers 0 2

There's the stats for the night, you can probably tell which one is which...florida 10-19 on 3rd and down, a bunch of which were long too, where as ohio state is 1-9. That tells a lot of the story right there. along with the 82 total yards for OSU. Just an ugly game :(

On offense - I'm honestly not sure whom had the worst bowl game of the last 2 years - you guys tonight w/ 82 total yards and one TD or Miami last year against LSU - not more than 100 yards and only a field goal.

For that matter - which QB was worse? Troy or Kyle "Takes a Sack Machine" Wright????

That game sucked ass, OSU is really, truly a much better team than they played last night.
I agree man, if UF played OSU a week after the SEC championship the reults of the game would of been much different. However this is never the case and never will be.

I thought OSU's play calling sucked. I'm a defensive minded person and i was really expected them to do some zone blitzes and diguise their coverages. They played a soft zone and UF's speed receivers ran across the middle and just sat down in holes in the zones. UF's play calling was exactly how i expected it to be and i was very happy with it. This game was won in the trenches, UF's weak point, our o-line really stepped up...of course it's easy to step up when OSU is only rushing 3 men half the game.

I think I underestimated how valuable Ginn was to our offense all year. The guy opened things up on many levels. I think like Rogue- without the layoff, it's a different ballgame. I thought Tressel was the guy that could overcome that. IMO, this game was a great argument for a big 10 championship game. Extend our damn season already. After a painful Browns season I desperately needed a win and honestly hadn't even contemplated a loss. I was not preopared for that at all. It's going to be a long winter.

I ALSO thought that we simply got our asses handed to us. Props to FLA.

You know what, I just gotta chime in after your rips on OSU and their fans in your last couple a posts. Can you honestly say there were no calls in that game that went Miamis way? Please, Thats football. ANY TRUE football fan with knowledge of the game will tell you the refs don't win or lose it for you. Any coach worth his salt will tell you the same. Anybody who has PLAYED the game will tell you the same- ultimately it comes down to one night and the players on the field on that night. You have been crying about that game for 5 years now. Osu last night had HORRIBLE callls against them throughout the game-so bad the announcers pointed it out. And yet the only thing you hear buckeyes fans blaming is our play. Say what you want about OSU fans( which is especially ballszy coming from a freakin Criami fan who sports the biggest thug team in the ncaa) but AT LEAST we can take a loss graciously. I guarantee you that while guys like me and Rogue ( and any of the fans I know)will speculate the what ifs(probably for the rest of our lives) you will never hear us make excuses or take away from the gators win for the next 5 years.
