Miami's Starting DTackle Bryan Pata Shot Dead in a Drive-by
ESPN.com - NCF - Hurricanes lineman shot, killed leaving practice field
God - I feel just awful. This kid's future was bright. He woulda been a good 2nd team DL in the NFL next year.
Jesus.
Rest in Peace Bryan. My prayers go out to the whole 'Cane family - esp. the Pata's.

I can't imagine playing a game just 4 days from now.

"We're targets because we play for the University of Miami. ... These guys, they know who we are," Miami linebacker Jon Beason said shortly after the shooting.
We are still waiting on the details the Pata case, but Miami is suggesting that random people are targeting Miami players simply because they play for the team? It must be really tough to play for Miami if that is the case.

I am pretty sure this was said after the incident where the d back was shot in the butt and returned fire, not about Pata.

the bad/sad part is Bryan Pata as an individual will also be victim to the fair/unfair stereotypes of a Miami football player. I have already seen the less than sympathetic columns that have drawn conclusions about his character.
what struck me is that Pata had a learning disability and put extra time in his studies and considered a career in the FBI if football didn't work out. it's rare you hear that about any athlete, regardless of institution

Damn that's tragic. Always sucks to hear about players getting killed. This guy was really good and goal driven by all accounts. My prayers out to his family
