Protein pudding. (In under 3 minutes)

    Smile Protein pudding. (In under 3 minutes)


    I eat this for breakfast every day before I hit the gym. I eat a clean bulk all year round, so I seldom eat something that I actually genuinely enjoy. As far as I know, I invented this myself. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, all because of this.

    -2 frozen bananas.
    -150g eggwhites.
    -1 x Scoop of protein powder. (+/- 30g)
    - 1 x Tbsp. Natural peanut butter.

    Basically stick it all in the blender. It has a nice smooth but thick texture. Also, it's cold, so it kickstarts your metabolism first thing in the morning.

    I sprinkle 50g of porridge oats over it when it's prepared. It has a hefty dose of protein. Personally, I like to put casein in mine because the pasteurized eggwhites are raw, and therefore act as fast digesting proteins whereas the casein gives a steady amino release throughout my workout.

    Sounds killer! I don't have any porridge oats though, so I could obviously go get some or maybe I could use something else?

    There are a few solutions I have tried in the past. These didn't taste as good as combining the oats with the final mixture, but they did suffice as a complete, quick and easy meal.

    Try one of these, buddy:

    A) Spoon the final mixture onto some biscuits of shredded wheat.
    B) Blend two or three slices of wholegrain bread in with the other ingredients. (My least preferred alternative.)
    C) Just leave the peanut butter out of the blender and spread it on some wholegrain bread instead and eat the "pudding" on its own.
    D) Spread the blended mixture onto some toast. (Provided that it's thick enough. To get the correct consistency for this I'd recommend 2 large frozen bananas and around 140g of eggwhites.)

    I'd recommend buying some oatmeal though, man. That tastes the best by far. By adding more eggwhites to the mixture you get a runnier result which also mixes nicely with the oats. Not only that, but there's the obvious benefit of more protein.

    does it have to be just egg whites or can you just throw in the whole egg i read on several occasions that the yolk is perfectly fine, i cant wait to eat this tomorrow though

    That's true buddy, in fact the yolk is very good for you when eaten in moderation- it's full of healthy fats.

    The reason I choose not to include it when preparing this myself is because it has a lot more distinct taste than the eggwhites on their own. You know when you eat an egg and the bit with the strongest flavour is the yolk? I think it would sort of spoil the taste of the end result, because it's being mixed with a lot of sweet ingredients.

    I know it's a shame to waste the yolks though, I'd recommend maybe cooking the yolk and eating it seperately. Let me know what you decide and how it turns out!

    In the future you may want to consider buying some pasteurised egg whites, those have proven extremely valuable in my nutrition.

    I loved it and tried it with and without the egg whites lol i see what you mean with spoiling the taste so i started cooking the yolk separate as i don't want to wast valuable nutrition haha, I will def look into the pastureised egg whites i live in Belfast (Ireland) and some things are hard to come by although i could substitute lots of stuff no problem it just costs more sometimes.

    Also i would love to get a hold of some peanut flour but the only place i found it was on an American website and the shipping cost and time kind of made it feel not worth it, it was for a high protein cookie recipe i seen on this site and i really wanted to try it out. that aside i think ill be sticking with your pudding for a while thanks for sharing mate.

    Thanks for getting back to me, I'm glad you told me about not putting the yolks in the mixture. I appreciate the heads up! I'm glad you enjoyed it mate, this seemed like too good of a discovery to keep to myself.     I'll eat two cups of Dannon low fat vanilla with 1/2 cup grape nuts, then chase that with a 35 gram protein shake for breakfast every day. 55 grams of protein and 138 grams of carbs. sometimes I'll deduct the grape nuts and add two oranges.

    Is that much protein even worth taking i read somewhere that your body can only digest or absorb a certain amount of protein at a time, don't get me wrong i do it to im just asking out of curiosity. Ill see if i can find the article and post it up for some you guys to have a look at.

    I've read exactly the same thing, but I have to say that this doesn't make too much sense to me. Whey protein is absorbed instantly, while casein and most animal proteins (with the exception of raw eggwhite) take longer to digest and absorb (slow release). So in essence, 3/4 hours after we eat meat/casein(via milk or yoghurt) it starts to be absorbed by our bodies. Then surely it means that our body can only absorb X amount of Animal protein every 4 hours? Or is it if we send food down 1 hour apart they'll be absorbed 4 ours later than ingestion, but still an hour apart from each other...? I don't understand it.

    Yeah, fruit and yoghurt is definitely a safe choice, although I would personally opt to put in some slow digesting carbs in there as well. If not, how come?

    The biggest protein myth is that you can only digest 30 grams of protein at one time. Find out what's wrong with this belief and just how much protein you need. This is a common question. I also get variations such as, how much protein can you digest at one time?
    There are two ways to answer this, because there really two questions being asked.

    How much protein can the digestive system physically absorb into the bloodstream from a meal?


    THE MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION...

    How much protein can you body actually utilize?


    The answers...

    About 95% and higher, unless you have some type of digestive system malfunction.


    So if you get convinced by supplement companies to drink a 42g protein shake in 5 minutes, you'll still probably absorb at 38 or more grams of that protein.
    Your muscle growth is not limited by the amount of protein you can DIGEST or ABSORB.
    Your muscle growth IS LIMITED by the amount of protein that your body can utilize for protein synthesis.

    So the answer to #2...

    A lot less than you think.


    You really don't need 40, or 30, or probably even 20g of protein per meal to keep your protein synthesis humming along. Any protein that your body can't use for growth will be shuttled into a process where it is broken down (de-aminated: meaning the nitrogen is removed from the molecule and it becomes a carbon skeleton) to be used in energy pathways.
    Now, there are benefits for eating extra protein (in my opinion) when dieting, mainly that it helps to suppress appetite.

    But the bottom line to the question I am asked almost everyday is...

    A. Your body can digest and absorb almost all of the protein you eat without problem.

    B. Your muscles can only do so much with protein...the muscle growth process is RARELY, if ever limited by the amount of protein we consume. Almost all of us can easily get enough protein for maximum muscle growth without the need for eating 50g of protein 6 times per day. Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, and Gunter Schlerkcamp excluded, of course.



    I couldn't find that article though i found this and thought id post it just to maybe clear things up a bit but i think this topic could go into alot more detail. I also read about the kidney thing though it went on to say if you have no kidney problems to begin with then you wont have any while taking x amount of protein. Maybe its better just to take a bit more i would rather take more protein and have wastage than not take enough and not have results.

    The thing about protein intake is really funny, medical doctors and sports doctors will forever disagree about how much protein is necessary. I saw an article about this guy saying 76 grams of protein wasn't enough for his eight year old son to grow on, and he himself ate 600 grams of protein per day. So, its really how much protein you are willing to buy. Jay Cutler says protein from solid food is best. So if you don't think you need that much, chicken breasts all the way.

    Sounds a good brew. I always have a smoothie for breakfast. I soak sunflower seeds, and linseeds and sometimes a mixture of other nuts add yoghet and a mixture of other fruit in morn like to always include a banana. I add some brewers yeast powder also. I don't know that others would like it but I do and my little grandchildren do. I miss it when I don't have it like this morn! We were out of bananas!!

    Hahah, I always have the same thing. If I wake up and there are no bananas my day doesn't start out right.
    I've tried soaking nuts as well actually, almonds to be precise I found they actually tasted horrible when I did it though.

    I loved the taste of this, I even made it in to a desert by adding sugar free fat free cheescake pudding when mixing it. Put it in the freezer for 20-30 mins=Awesome.
