why oats??

  1. why oats??

I keep seeing 1/2 cups of oats references for breakfast...Is brown rice, barlet oats, quinoa, wheat berriesor or anything like interchangable???help!

  2. of course. calm down. you can have whatever carb source you like. just make sure it's not processed all to hell. i personally like grits (hominy cereal). i eat me a bowl of that with 1tbsp of p.b. in the mornings now.

  3. Yeah, I like a mix of Oat Groats and Barley personally. A lot of guys choose oatmeal because it's easy and everywhere.

  4. IMO..nothing beats the convience of protein, oats, and a blender for my pre-breakfast shake. its also my main source of fiber.

  5. where do you guys go to buy groats... i guess I could check whole market. All I can find is steel cut oats, which I currently use.

    ^^^Not veggies?

BiggerGeek - I get groats at Winco. I don't know where you are, so I don't know if you have them, but any place you can buy foods in bulk will typically sell both oat and wheat groats.

To prepare: 1cup groats per 3.5cups water: the night before you want to eat them, put both the groats and water in a pot and bring to a boil. Simmer for 15-20mins with the lid on. Turn the stove off, leave the lid on and let the pot sit on the stove until morning. Reheat either on the stove or in the microwave.

i eat steamed brocolli and carrots maybe 5 meals a month no joke. obviously i eat alot of potatos.

i know the origional post said 1/2 cup...i do it bigger...1.5 cups (12g fiber) twice a day. did i mention i love carbs?

  8. ok as long as were talking carbs-im in the process of attaempting to cut. And I do love my carbs . I have a 1/2 cup as breakfast and 1/2 cup post lifting. anyother way or time of the day I can work them in. Im taking about 160g a day...

  9. For cutting, carbs are best left to breakfast, during your workout, post-workout and post-post-workout (i.e. the actual meal you have about 1.5hrs after lifting).

I eat like that when bulking... try to limit carbs except within the four hours after working out and first thing in the morning.

When I am cutting, I limit carbs most of the time. I guess I am just one of those low carb type of people. I just feel much better that way

  11. right BG it sounds like I got it right , I onkly eat in the AM and 1/2 hr after lifting. So Im cool. what qtys are you taking in in the AM and post WO???

Steel cut oats are just roughly chopped groats, more palatable IMO. If you don't overcook them, they're the best thing, but to find them I would imagine a bulk health foods store might have them. That's where I've seen them personally.
