There are different degrees of strengths with topical steroids. Most of them are mild and only act locally to control the problem, however there are more potent topical steriod creams/concentrations that will note systemic effects from use.

okay. its like 1% so i doubt it will do much systemic wise but are you saying that it would effect cortisol levels? raise them? just curious.

If used in a small area for a short amount of time, no significant systemic effects or hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal suppression should be noted. However, if it's applied over a large surface area for any extended period of time, systemic effects and suppression can become noteworthy. They would be consistant with taking any exogenous corticosteroid such as solumedrol, decadron, solu-cortef, or prednisone.

Giving yourself an exogenous cortisol-like substance (corticosteroids)will cause you to experience effects consistant with any increased endogenous cortisol production.

If your using 1% hydrocortisone cream for a minor issue you have nothing to worry about.

Could extended use of a corticosteroid cause low testosterone levels?
My dermatoligist had me on a cream (Vanos 1% a corticosteroid) for like a year and I recently went to my primary care physician for a physical and my testoterone levels came back much lower than they should (233) and I'm wondering if that could have caused it.
