need a recommendation (anti-inflamatory OTC drug)

I am trying to heal from a strained brachialis injury. Its been nagging me for some time, so I'm just doing the usual recommendation of iceing it twice a day for 15 minutes and taking two generic aspirins twice as an anti-inflamatory.

Is there anything better out there than just aspirin to use as a short-term anti-inflamatory.

    thanks.

Aleve or Advil work well. There had been some concern regarding Naproxen (what's in Aleve) and the heart, but I believe it was exaggerated. I will use both, depending on what I have on hand. Advil, I usually dose at 800mg's, but for no more than 3 days. I can't remember what the prescription strength is. 500mg pills I think. As for Aleve, I double up on it also. Whatever the perscription strength is, can't remember though.

Maybe the Doc will finish his afternoon golf game and give his professional opinion.

I could have been bowling or playing bingo for charity

Cuffs has the right advise. Orudis works well too if you want a short acting drug (about 4hrs). It takes at least 75mg though and the OTC pills are only 12.5, so you need 6 to do it. Aleve is 220mg, I'd take 2 or 3 every 12 hrs, but plain ol' motrin 600mg (3 pills) every 8 hrs works best it seems.

Oh, I thought you meant years. You probably don't have anything to worry about. Just stop as soon as you can, try not to go past 3 or 4 months of steady use. But, I've know people who have been on Advil averaging about 4 pills/day for 2+ years, and they have no adverse symptoms. However, it is popularly believed that it worsens arthritis in the long run when taken over many years.

    this is interesting.
i have been taking OTC pain killers steadily for about 20 years now.
started when i received a fractured skull after a a gang assault.
was taking 2 to 4 acetominophen(sp) tabs daily for about 15 years.
then when i learned that it was what was blowing out my liver i switched to aspirin, but that didn't work. so i switched off between acetomin and ibuprofin back and forth for several years. after 2, 6 month cycles of siazen i felt that my liver was finally back to normal for a man my age.
however i still take 4 to 8 tabs of ibu a day.
    every day.

don't know what this will hold for the future but the other option is debilitating pain in my head daily, and i would just go sit in a dark corner for an indeterminate time.

for what it's worth i don't use any other OTC drugs regularly, and i don't drink alchohol.

agreed...it is welll worth the money. IF you find a chirpractic care along with an ART specialist you can get it covered by insurance usually.
