adderall weight loss

adderall weight loss
So i was diagnosed with ADHD and was perscribed adderall which is a mixture of 4 amphetamine salts at 40 mgs a day and people have started telling me that i am looking as though i have lost weight. I am trying to find out if adderall has any fat burning properties in and of itself. I know when i am on it i feel like i am on a high dose of ephedrine, or clen. Or if it is just a result of my appetite being almost non-existent...
- 04-23-2005, 07:08 PM
Um, yes. Potent appetite supression, much more than ephedrine, mostly from l-amphetamine content in Adderall. Lots of people prefer dextroamphetamine only, such as Dexedrine for treatement of ADD, but adderall is a salt mixture of 75% d, and 25% l isomers of phenylethylamine.

I'm not sure of the reason, but a friend of mine lost about 20 lb on adderall. He kept bumping up his dose and got really REALLY weird and disconnected from everything. Be careful.

I used to be on that stuff during high school. It made me feel great at first, but then my body just seemed to (like jas123's friend) shutdown in a way that is kinda hard to explain. I lost SERIOUS weight on that stuff. But I also abused it at times as well...used to snort it, etc...(DON"T DO THIS!!) I just used to be outa control as a teen.
It definatley made my grades improve too. For some people it doesn't effect them as bad as it did me, but I'm high strung as it is I guess.
The weight loss was due to constant anorexia due to appetite loss. BAck then (though I wasn't BB'ing) I would go the whole day only eating like 1000 calories...and that would even be hard to get down...

Lifted, check out the link below. The guy who posted is eating like an anorexic, as I mentioned in the thread. I just think people like that need to have their heads examined, because obviously there is a mental problem.Originally Posted by lifted

Eating is no problem,u just got to eat at the normal times the normal amount of food u usually eat.
since I have some chronic pain I sometimes realize my hunger&thirst just after the speed has made me numb.*lol*

Well, I think....key word here though is *think* that adderall is just pure amphetamine. I'm probably wrong though.
BUt check this out...
When I was on that stuff back in H.S., I'd always get it free w/ my health insurance. So, you all know what a prescribed pill bottle looks like from your pharmacy, right? Well, you know how at the bottom of the bottle where it says the drug's name? And then if you're getting the generic it will have the generic name there and then below it it will have something like: for > adderal, or like for > vicodin??
Well one time my pharmacy gave me the generic due to insurance and I swear to god it said this: Amphetamine for > adderall....so the generic name for adderall is just straight ****ing amphetamine!! That's pretty crazy...

I would think so as it has a stimulatory effect, but i'm not positive.Originally Posted by dickwootton

It's a diuretic big time - hence the immediate weight loss, no fat burning properties, big appetite supressant and big time libido loss over time. One big side effect is depression after consistent use, in males this seems to come from libido loss=depression. My buddy is on this crap and is in the hole big time from it and has gained about 60 lbs, he's taking about 40mg a day.
04-25-2005, 05:28 PM
Fat burning properties of ephedrine which is basically none. Increase dopamine and norepinephrine which is good for long term weight loss, but also an increase in cortisol. Loss of libido? Where did you figure that out? Gaining 60lbs? Wow that's weird. It's a potent appetite supressant why would he gain weight?Originally Posted by Pfunk47

Loss of libido comes from prolonged use, it's like people who blow coke for many years eventually your going to have a hard time getting it up but combined with the depression that may or may not come from the Adderall you have loss of libido. Like I said it is a huge appetite surpressant but eventually just like E&C the appetite supression wears off. I'am not saying he gained 60lbs becasue of the Aderrall but it didnt' burn any fat either nor prevented him to eat, he ate because he was unhappy but he's unhappy becasue he eats.
ESPN hasn't a clue about the magic juice, if anyone is stupid enough to take anything without any research and listen to TV, Darwinism prevails.

You're comparing chronic use of cocaine to low dose Amphetamine in treatment of ADD? Stop blowing the horn when there is no fire. These medications could and are very helpful for the treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder. People with ADD have a hard time succeeding in life and work without treatment of the disorder. They usually fall far behind, procrastinating and not caring.
Cocaine =/ Adderall. Adderall =/ Methamphetamine.
Adderall is a low dose of (d,l)-amphetamine usually in the range of 10-40mg daily. Long term useage might, and probably does have some neurotoxic effects - but just as any other drug - you have to be willing to accept the concenquences.
To say to yourself that steroids have no concenquences is as ignorant as comparing Adderall to Cocaine. When you delve into any drug that will alter your body or brain chemistry, you HAVE to be willing to accept the concenquences. This is the same for cocains, as it is with steroids. When you shoot yourself with 3ml of testosterone, over time, there will be adverse effects whether on your blood pressure, cardiovascular system, scalp, or liver. It is just a matter of time.
When you accept the fact that there are side effects, and you are content with their possible damage, you will no longer be lying to yourself and feel better about yourself. It's just about thoughful use of substances at resonable levels with resonable knowledge in what you are doing and what could possibly go wrong.
04-26-2005, 11:12 AM
I was making a comparison, 2 years of chronic coke use is not equal to 2 years of adderal correct daily dosage. I was stating eventually this could happen, ie.consequences. Everyone knows there is consequences with every choice we make, research gives you the choice to be content with the consequences or not. Stating a few facts, observations and comparisons is not condoning or promoting the use of anything. In the end adderall still has no fat burning effects. Appetite surpression is the closest thing and anyone who doesn't eat to lose weight already isnt' that intelligent. Success in life comes from hard work, dedication and education, we need more hugs not drugs but I have not been diagnosed ADHD so I have no idea what life is like for the wandering mind.

So, how do you propose we lose weight? With fat burning drugs such as Clenbuterol?Originally Posted by Pfunk47

Not really sure what to make of the rest of your post. I have to attend my Organic Chemistry lecture. Maybe you agree with my post, I don't know. Good luck.

So you don't change your caloric intake while dieting vs bulking? Don't know man, most people don't have the time to spend 2 hours a day doing cardio and also weight resistance training to retain muscle.Originally Posted by Fastflight

I doubt a BB could ever do so much and excessive cardio so he would loose muscleweight.
A body is a machine adapting to the tasks it´s forced to.
Too much food in your stomach,no blood for the stomach, but for the task->food goes into the toilet sooner or later->calories are gone, although they were in.
Too little rest/calories for recovery, muscles won´t grow and the latter.
So here is in my opinion the best space for intervention.
The body composition inbetween a certain limit, which is declared "normal" by BWI or any other model for population,is highly responsive to exercise but the amount of muscles (LBM) over this middel is not.
It´s determined by the level of hormones you are able to produce(maybe in response to exercise and food-intake) or admister.
The food isn´t that important although it gives an edge to the specific need of the metabolism during exercise, after excercise,at rest...
But it´s neartly neglible for a normal man,not competin at top-levels.
I know it,´cause I ate tons of fat and carbs at work and had a bf below 10%,and a resting pulse of 42 and lower and several sh*ts of the weigth of an elefant during the day.-sorry for this metaphor.
But let me point out ,we´re both right and the border between food and medicine may vanish, but in general `eating´ is the least hindering factor in achiving a bodycomposition(not/ or partially weight) you´re seeking for.
It´s just hard work,in my opinion.

BTW Nor-Epinephrine and so causes direct lipolysis and thus fat-loss and thus every agent that exerts an increase in catecholamines,as ie Adderalll, plus some stimulants have an anti-catabolic aspect by accelarating the whole metabolism as such and thus ie protein-uptake as well as lipolysis when needed.

This is the worst post Ive seen in a while. Ok, I take that back...but it is just awful advice. IT is NOT DIFFICULT to overtrain/overreach whether it is doing too much cardio, lifting or just general excercise. Just because **** worked for you (n=1) means ABSOLUTELY nothing. I too have had a resting pulse of 40 actually...i was also severely overtrained and my cortisol levels were sky high.Originally Posted by Fastflight
And back to the original question.....of course ritalin/adderall is going to 'help' lose weight, just like eph, caff, HEAT, and any other therm will....simply by killing appetite and providing energy. The whole metabolic boost is minimal unless you are using clen, t3 or dnp.

I took 10-60mg Adderall for 12 years straight. You lose appetite initially but it returns after a few months to some degree. Phentermine(Adipex) is real bad with appetite, worse than adderall. This promotes weight loss of course. Plus it's an andrenergic thermogen so it actually raises metabolism up to 40% at high doses. Pulse rate, metabolism all go up and you require more oxygen to supply the body, thus it's a respiratory stim as well. I never had sexual problems with it, and I could work my ass off, made me very productive. I'm thinking about getting back on it actually, if fought depression better than any other med I've tried, and that's more than just a few. Actually, Dexadrine is cleaner and stronger at the same time. Problem is, they only make time release so it must be used early. I liked them too
05-14-2005, 11:33 AM
Dexedrine is also made immediate release (as in dextrostat) or there are also many generic dextroamphetamine tablets. They come in 5 and 10 mg.

I never cared much for slow release stuff, sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't care about covenience. I'd rather take a pill ever 6 hrs if it works than one every 12 hr that doesn't always even work for some reason. Taking two of the 30's together almost always works though.

Lol, I was just about to ask a question about adderall when I came across this thread. Recently I just started taking 40 mg of Adderall XR in the mornings and it works great, I'm always paying attention and in a good mood but the only downside Ive been having is the sexual side effects. When Im getting jiggy my friend just doesn't want to cooperate (Barely any feeling) Has anyone else had this problem? I know some friends that also complain about it.
05-18-2006, 05:14 AM
Yup, I have the same issue. I use Cialis to baid-aid the problem, but I wouldn't recommend that if you're taking adderall daily.Originally Posted by CREAO

I was extremely addicted to adderall for about a year and a half. I got diagnosed with ADHD and started at 20mg a day. I loved the euphoria and kept bumping up the dose until I was taking 10 a day. That's 200mg a day of ADDERALL! I was really disconnected from everyone and just wanted to be by myself all the time. I even researched ways to make it work better to get me high and found that foods with bases in them enhance the euphoria. I would eat chicken to make it work better and the best was Pepto-Bismol the pink stuff.
I was also so addicted that I tried to research how to make my own homebrew. Be careful.
After I quit it cold turkey I was in the bed for about 2 weeks, sleeping and moping around the house REALLY REALLY DEPRESSED just totally craving the drug. Oh yea and another thing. When I quit the 200mg a day dose, my weight went from 196 to around 235 in less than a month. Pretty freaky huh?

I've been taking adderal for 2 monthes now. I've gotten libido loss, I'm not sure it is from cutting or the adderal though.

The author of this forum wanted something safe. Well for anyone who is afraid of creatine of NO supplements, because they might be bad, consider this: adderall WILL fry your brain, probably even mess up your life. The amphetamines are such potent vasoconstrictors, that they force the body to produce excess nitric oxide (don't get excited yet - why? read on) which under amphetamine-induced conditions reacts with superoxide to produce peroxynitrite, ONOOO-.
This chemical (peroxynitrite) has been shown to oxidize the **** of dopamine neurons in the brain and thus ruin cognitive abilities. Also, amphetamines reduce endogenous production of norepinephrine, requiring you take more and more for the same effect over time. Well, given neuronal death caused by the peroxynitrite, eventually your brain power plateaus, then declines. You eventually become psychotic, and develop schizophrenic symptoms, including hallucinations and aggression. You must stop, and your brain will be in recharge mode for .5 - 3 years, depending on your age and biochemical factors.
zdcisme123, you should be utterly ashamed of yourself for bringing this up. The fact is, adderall is just a prescription form of one of the most devastating street drugs, that causes people to commit terrible crimes. It should never be taken by anyone wanting to get a healthy boost on their studies. Jeez, man. This stuff is serious.
07-08-2006, 03:56 PM
That guy's on a soapbox. Adderal is not that bad. They've been giving amphetamines to little 6 year old kids for over half a century now. I personally took 60-90mg/d Adderal for about 11 straight years. I do have one regret, I should have never stopped! It works wonders on depression and makes you highly productive too. If anything, it greatly enhanced my cognitive functions.
