Training with an NSAID (Aleeve), effect on protein synthesis?
I've got some nerve inflammation in my upper spine, causing some of the fingers in my right hand to go numb. A trip to the doctor, and he wants me to try taking a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (Aleeve, ie: Nanproxen Sodium) twice a day for two weeks and see if it helps my nerves.
HOWEVER, I remember reading that drugs like Advil, IB Proufen, Asprin, etc, DRECREASE
protein synthesis. Do any of you know if there is any validity to this claim? I have been on google and Pubmed the past hour trying to find studies that support this, but most of then are invitro for dogs, or potato plants or stuff like that. Also, if it does decrease protein synthesis, do you think it is a dramatic enough amount to hinder gains?
Thanks

Take the ibuprofen. Protein synthesis and gains is the least of your concerns at this point.
Try to find out your lifting form (eg squats) caused your nerve problem so it doesn't happen again.

Like said above, it's not a real issue. I've taken Ibuprofen several days in a row while training and never noticed any type of ill effects.

January's edition of MD magazine had a long article about it, but I think it was talking more about the stronger type medications and not so much on the OTC types.
