My friend asks "my son will be playing soccer this fall. What is a goal meal to eat the night before a game/practice? Also what is a good snack right before a game? What to eat after a game? The coach tells them they will run approx 7 miles in a game and most will be sprinting".

Thanks in advance for advice on how to respond!

I wouldnt put too much focus on nutrition UNLESS he is advanced - for a child, making something more complex than it needs to be may result in them disliking it or losing interest in it because it becomes like a job.

Instead, focus on improving basic skills through small sided games (standing in front of him and passing isnt a good drill as this never happens in a game) will improve his game ability and fitness while he has fun.

Beforehand toast or cereal will be sufficient and before just keep meals as normal. Some carbs, fats and protein

Edit: after typing that I realised I made an assumption on his age. How old is he?

Carbs 2 hours before (as part of a meal), water (sipped on until game time)
