Special on NutraPlanet: Alpha Lipoic Acid Caps

    NutraPlanet: Alpha Lipoic Acid Caps
    (100 caps/300 mg) $12.99

NutraPlanet Alpha Lipoic Acid Capsules (ALA)

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid that is found in every cell of the human body. It is needed to sustain human life and is primarily used by the body to convert sugar glucose into usable energy.

Although an ALA deficiency is extremely rare, supplementing with high quality ALA provides benefits that non-supplement users simply will not achieve on their own; namely superior anti-oxidant and free radical cleansing and as equally important to the athlete, improved insulin sensitivity and glucose utilization.

ALA has shown to be a superior anti-oxidant, because unlike Vitamin C or E, it is active in both fat and water based environments and actually has the ability to recycle other anti-oxidants that have been used up by the body. Furthermore, ALA has been shown to help enhance the formation of the body’s own supply of glutathione, one of the strongest natural anti-oxidants known.

In regards to Glucose usage and insulin sensativity, ALA has been shown to speed the removal of glucose from the bloodstream by enhancing insulin function, and thus helps control blood sugar, which should be of vital importance to any athlete. Lipoic acid is a key factor in the cellular process that metabolizes glucose for energy production and enhances glucose utilization, which may help shuttle nutrients into muscle cells faster and more effeiciently while at the same time preventing fat cells from absorbing nutrients. The end result would be a lower body fat level and an increase in lean muscle mass.

ALA aslo has an impeccible saftery profile. Side effects are rare, but may include allergic skin reactions in the form of a rash or hives. Some people report gastrointestinal effects, such as nausea. For this reason, taking the product with food is recommended.

As always, NutraPlanet.com assures potency, purity and quality. Our ALA comes from only the purest sources available at an unbelievable price.

Wasn't there some chat about regular ALA not being good and R-ALA being the one to use? I'd love to pick this up if it doesn't matter either way...

ALA is a mixture of 50% R-ALA and 50% S-ALA. there is evidence that S-ALA may negate some of the beneficial effects of R-ALA.

so, pure R-ALA is much more potent as it is the stereoisomer that naturally occurs in the body.

however you can experience the same benefits from ALA, it likely just takes a higher dose.
most weight the benefit/cost when choosing between the two.
