    From obesity to the stage

Yesterday I completed a year long journey in which I went from obesity to taking the stage for the first time ever. For over 25 years I dreamt of being a bodybuilder and have now fulfilled that dream. I began at 274 pounds and now weigh in 179 (6 foot tall). It was a long road and wasn't always easy. I proudly did it drug and stimulant free. I am unable to have caffeine or any fat burners. Much thanks to all of you on AM for your motivation and knowledgable posts. I refer to this forum daily and will continue to. I hope to now inspire others who like myself, are fed up and need a change in their life. Don't EVER give up on yourself or your dreams. Don't listen to others when they say it isn't possible, anything is attainable! Set goals and go after them! One meal at a time, one workout at a time, one day at a time!

Thanks everyone. I did it 100% clean. Due to a medical condition I cannot even have caffeine. I competed in the INBF and was polygraphed. I am not against drug use but choose the natural route.

I have been lifting for over 25 years. My diet was always **** and spiraled out of control over the years. I hired a nutrition coach and it made all the difference.

You can and will get there. Just keep at it. One day at a time.

There are some extremely knowledgable people on here and they offer great advice. Just keep reading the posts and learning more every day.

I know it's a long road you still have in front of you but the time will go by quick. The feeling of accomplishment will be well worth it.

    Thank you.

    1. I had to learn to be honest with myself. I was in a lot worse shape than I believed. I still saw myself as athletic and not that fat. I honestly believed that if I lost 30 pounds I'd be in great shape. I lost that 30 and reality set in, I still had a long way to go. It was very hard mentally to accept.

    2. The key to success is in the diet. I've always worked out over the years but ate like garbage. There were times in the past where I'd run more, lift more, etc... But none of it made any difference. It wasn't until I learned to eat properly that I began to lose.

    3. Surround yourself with positive people. It's tough enough losing but it's even harder when others try to keep you down. I had to distance myself from the negative.

It's amazing how people react to someone losing weight. I had friends calling family members to tell them I was dying of cancer, everyone thought I was sick and dying. Even my mother thought I was hiding an illness. Pretty much only my wife and coaches knew I was training for competition. After a year of dieting I posted my contest pic on my Facebook and everyone was shocked. No one knew I was all muscle under my clothes. Once they saw that the sick comments stopped.

Man, again that's outstanding!! I've always struggled with my body at and though I've lost 50+ lbs from my fattest, I'm still not satisfied. I also have noticed that changing how I eat (low carbs and periodic refeeds) has been the only thing that's had drastic results. No amount of exercise has compared to the changes from diet modification.
I sometimes get discouraged because the fat came off faster when I was fatter. Now the % is of a smaller total and has slowed.
Your story is really inspiring to me. No matter if someone has 5 or 200 lbs to lose, if you aren't satisfied with your body, the journey, struggles, and frustrations are the same.

Thanks man. We all have the same struggles. My coaches are a husband wife team, and both are WNBF pros. I see them struggle too and it keeps things real for me. I guess if we want the results we must put the hard work in. There are no shortcuts.

Congrats on your loss and hard work!

Can I ask you a question, Did you ever deal with people calling you skinny? Because I used to be 330 im down to 250 17% bodyfat I have 25lbs to go before I lean bulk and people can mistake your getting lean phase for becoming anorexic its F-ing with my head but I know I need to just lose this last bit then show them.

Congrats on your progress. I just ignored everyone. Do what you're doing for you. Most of my "friends" keep telling me to put some weight on, but I think they just feel insecure about themselves.

And it's definitely a mental game. I've heard someone say that when they bulk they have lean envy and when they cut they have bulk envy. Just find a spot where you're happy with yourself and healthy.

I can really relate in this topic ...I was 325.......down to 217 with a goal of 205......not sure what my BMI is but I just ordered a caliper. I did this 100% legal and proper......good old fashion exercise and nutrition .......I am subsequently addicted to this lifestyle......my original goal was 240. I am going to continue and see where this goes. Congrats to all who have dedicated and sacrificed to enjoying a NEW lifestyle.
