It's hard to believe that the UFC is having another ppv already (the 14th). I love polls so let's see what people think.

I think Frankln will take it. He'll probably immediately drop to one knee when the fight starts to avoid the head kick and after that it's over for Silva. JK. I think he'll take him to the ground and win the fight there. It will be an interesting fight because it gives us a comparison of the UFC vs. Pride 185/183 guys.

Also, I heard Sherk will cutting down from 175 for his fight (which was his WW fighting weight). He should be a monster at 155. Look out Kenflo.

I am really torn about this fight. My gut says Franklin, but I will not count out Silva.

I will go with Anderson Silva.

You also have to remember that Silva is a BJJ Blackbelt under Rodrigo Nogueira. This is gonna be a war. Could go either way in my opinion. Ring rust from Franklin's injury could be an issue. Anderson Silva R2 TKO from strikes.

1st round TKO Spider!!!!! I hope he does the MJ dance. LOL at Franklin dropping to one knee.

I think Franklin could be in serious trouble with this fight. He's going against a more precise striker than he is, plus the Spider is probably better on the ground.

And Sherk should pound KenFlo into a fine powder. That fight looks like a joke to me.

I still don't get Florian. This fight should be a carbon copy of his fight against Diego Sanchez. He may have submissions but he will be straight overpowered in this fight. Hopefully the cut isn't too much for Sherk.

Man...the Franklin/Anderson fight is gonna be close. I have to go with Franklin even though I think it's too close to call this fight with any ounce of certainty.

If Silva watches TUF 4 we may see both guys dropping to one knee. Anything can happen in this fight :D

Seriously, I think this has the potential to be one of the best UFC fights of all time. I haven't seen too much of Silva's ground game. Getting caught in Chonan's flying heel hook comes to mind, but that was a few years ago, and with the recent blackbelt from the Nogs, I imagine Silva is quite strong on the ground too. If Silva beats Franklin it will totally shake up the UFC fans' sense of reality.

I'm going with Silva via strikes...

I like Franklin by submission is round one. I give the edge to Silva slightly if they stand, but I think Franklins ground game is way better.

I don't think Franklin's submissions are any better then Silva's, but I'm with you and definitely give Franklin the edge on the ground. Franklin is A LOT stronger then Silva.

LMAO.

I'm going to have pick Franklin on this one despite being a Pride nut-hugger. I think Franklin's ability to get in the cage and pick apart his opponent is going to shine in this match.

You also might remember that his black belt is pretty much a joke. He has never submitted someone, and his losses are from submissions.

True, he hasn't had a submission in a match but he can hold his own on the ground. I'm sure you saw his fight with Carlos Newton. If it goes to the ground I see Franklin controlling by his sheer size, but I really don't see a submission victory(unless verbal from strikes). All I know is that this fight should be very exciting.

Chonan was arguably winning the fight even before his submission by some GnP if I remember correctly. Rich might have a shot at winning it that way and by controlling him.

Silva has devasting knees so Rich will have to be careful shooting in. Match-up could go either way but I don't seeing it going the distance unelss there's some lay n pray by Rich. Seeing Silva's striking in person I don't think Rich should or could trade shots with him but I guess we'll find out.

I think that Rich has the best standup in mma right now. But most people don't realize that he has some of the best Bjj and grappling trainers in the world. Over the summer I went to where rich trains in middletown OH and I must say that its top notched. Rich's bjj instructer, jorge gurgel (from the ultimate fighter 2) is a black belt under pride fighter "Marcus Aurelio" (who tapped out gomi)

My bjj school is associated with jorge's school and I have actually met rich. All I can say is that rich seems has a sense of arrogance to him. The time I trained with him I asked him to show me how to do a leg kick correctly. I mentioned that I had Tae kwon do experience and he laughed. He pretty much told me that TKD sucked when it comes to power. After that he had me kick a bag for an hour until I got the correct technique down. During this time he was a newby in the ufc (just beat evan tanner) Many of the fighters from my school have moved to OH to train with Jorge and Rich and I honestly believe that they may be future UFC fighters. All I can say is that Rich has some of the best training in the world.

That's what everyone thought about Pulver vs. Lauzon. Don't count the Boston guys out so easily (though I have to admit that I think you are probably right).

Sorry, not much time for MMA these days, more interested in watching and analyzing my Wolverines marching towards a showdown with the Buckeyes.

I don't know much of anything about Silva, KOing Leben looked slick but Leben's boxing tactics where pitiful, he was begging for a good striker to take his head off.

Favorites win 72% of the time in the uFC and UFN, I'll go with the odds, and pick Franklin.

You guys are right, "Black Belt in BJJ" is a suspect credential, give me the good wrestler with a decent sub and countersub ability, their superior athleticism will often trump the technically superior submission schooling.
College football over MMA, how dare you:twisted:

Sorry man, no disrespect to your hometown boy, but I just don't think he's close to being ready for someone like Sherk.

I also can't figure out why he's getting a title shot when you consider all of the other guys in the division.

Yeah, but Sherk is low to the ground, and he'll have trouble escaping Kenflo's subs with you hanging off his sack, Savage. :D

I can't keep up with all the new talent coming into the UFC.

Who do you think most deserves the title shot?
:toofunny: I tried to rep you for making me laugh out loud," You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Rogue Drone again."

Bwahahahaha!!!

Yeah, that might impede him a little, but the guy IS pretty strong so maybe not. ;)

If it weren't for his recent loss, the most reasonable choice would have been Jens Pulver.

That aside, since it's a newly re-established division with mostly welterweights dropping down to it, I would have to say the next highest-ranking welterweight would be the most obvious choice after Jens.

I think that would probably be Joe Stevenson, given Fisher's recent loss to Stout and his win over Yves Edwards.

Unless he's feeding us misinformation, Franklin said that he plans to start off standing against Silva and adjust if necessary. Silva may not give him time to adjust, though.

I can only imagine the looks on the "TUFhuggers" faces at the bar I'll be at if the guy they see pimping on highschool chicks in the Xyience commercials is turned into a bloody mess.

I hear you, bro. I am definitely leaning toward Sherk. To look at them, it would seem that Sherk will destroy Kenny. But Florian is smart, and pretty wily from what I've seen. I think the only reason Florian is getting the title shot is that he is from Dana's home town. Dana found him at a local fight here.

I'm leaning toward Sherk, I'm just saying don't count Kenflo out.

KenFlo has a chance but it's not a great one. Sherk is too well rounded and so damn strong I jsut see him powering out of sub attempts. Seems like Kenflo was pressured by the UFC into taking the fight after some others refused. We'l lfind out what happen though this Saturday, hope to see some of you there.

If Franklin does beat A. Silva which won't be easy I really think he's only going to get one more win over whoever wins TUF. Then I see either Kendell Groves or Jason MacDonald( He owned Ed Herman and even Kendell couldn't do that) taking over.

I've actually been watching UFC since probably 4 or 5 when nobody thought Dan Severn could be beat, and then Tank came along and everybody thought it was the second coming of Mike Tyson. What I've seen over the years is the UFC goes in cycles where a type will dominate for a while and then another. Right now stikers have taken over with the exception of Matt Hughes. The submision specialist have learn to be just as good on their feet and I think they are there. Franklin is a really good mma stiker, but I think Silva is probably better. It will come down to how much ground game Franklin has developed. The newer guys have got it all together. They can stay on there feet, they can avoid the takedown, and in my opinion the tide has turned in their favor for submisions. These guys are so sharp that they can and will pull submisions out quickly with textbook displays of precision. I believe that that part of MMA will be at the forefront for the next couple of years the way stiking has been for a couple.

O.K. The cycles have ended for the most part, if you want to win you must be well rounded, period. That being said, Mcdonald looked good, so did Kendall, but Rich Franklin is on a different level. He likely wouldn't get subbed by either of those guys and would pick them apart standing. But whatever, its all open for debate, just my opinion.

I feel that this is his greatest strength...being able to pick apart his opponent. I don't practice MMA, so I'm somewhat at a loss for words on how to explain what I'm saying more eloquently...

What I like about Rich Franklin is the combination of natural Light Heavy's strike power and ground strength fighting at 185, with the hard working and smart science training of technique and cardio, add a dash of Stone Killer, the champion.

Looking at Anderson Silva's previous fights, he appears to me to be a David Loiseau, a finesse fighter, who works at range in circular motion, who will have trouble with an overpowering straight punching and ground control wrestling Franklin.
^^^...that's what I meant...:icon_lol:

I agree for the most part, but what really seperates Anderson from guys like Louiseau is his movement and hand speed, oh and his knees are phenomenal. When Anderson is aggressive he is tough to beat, but when he gets stuck in his finesse game he's not that great, and he's not a large middleweight. I mean he fought at 167 for the majority of his career, so we'll see if he can avoid getting manhandled.

Come on little buddy. 2+2=4. Are you slow or something. I said Rich would destroy Jason Mcdonald and Kendall Grove(who you consider to be top fighters at 185) not Silva! I picked Silva to win and actually gave legitamate reasons as to why that might happen. You have a lot of nerve, making comments like "Mcdonald subbed Ed Herman and not even Kendall could do that"(then you go on to say that Franklin is in trouble because of that) show that you're somewhat of a noob at best. And finally I asked if UFN7 was one of the first events you had seen because your entire post was a joke, why would you ask me that? What did I post that would lead you to believe that was the first event I had watched? Theres guys here that have been into MMA for 1 year and have a ten times better grasp of whats going on then you who has self-proclaimedly been watching since 95.

Damn, I actually beat Rogue on a fight pick :D Just goes to show that anything is possible in MMA.

Great fight! I watched it on dailymotion.com. My wife just lost a family member, so I wasn't in a position to go ordering it.

Silva looked absolutely impressive. I foresee the entire 185lb class training clinch defense. I wonder who will get the first shot at Silva. Franklin looked unbeatable before this.

I haven't seen sherk/florian or lauzon/fisher. Based on the play-by-plays, it sounds like both were good fights. Sherk is an absolute freak!

Alex, if this refers to me, I've actually only been watching for about 6 months. I tend to get a wee bit obsessed with things

Just having a little fun. I felt a little dissed from your first post and just jabbing back. No real offense meant. But I still stand by what I said about Kendell. And I'll give you a couple of better reasons. 1. He's friggin 6'6" at 185. Nobody's going to clinch and knee someone that tall. 2. Reach advantage. He's not been tested on ufc ground yet, but a good long jab could keep someone like Silva back long enough to set a a good shoot or bum ruch into the cage. 3. Submissions. Like I said before The newest guys are Equally good standing, ground and pound, on the bottom, and on top. As good as Franklin was his natural instinct was to stay standing, and he simply was no match for Silva like that and should have had him on the mat. But anyway I don't want to start a ***** match so sorry for trying to rub one in. I didn't realise you picked Silva too. I really wish Franklin could have got the job done. Oh well.

The I've been saying for a while that most fighters have a big hole in their game when it comes to fighting in the clinch. That is what makes Wand and Shogun so dangerous. Of course, clinch-specializing fighters are at a disadvantage vs good grapplers (see Hidehiko Yoshida vs Wanderlei Silva, yoshida did a lot better than one would expect him to given his other fights, because his game is a good matchup with Wandy's, whereas I think Chuck would demolish Yoshida badly).
