    It already happened. Rnd 1 KO overeem

    [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeFSD2WgJzk"]YouTube - k-1 Dream Dynamite! •DREAM Heavyweight bout: Alistair Overeem vs. Todd Duffee full fight[/nomedia]

    knocked him full unconscious with a left hand

    The only relevant bit is overeem's takedown defense, which works, but wasn't exactly a clean sprawl. Still, best HW on planet and it's not close

    Wow, looked like Duffee tried to execute Lesnar's exact plan against Cain. I don't know whether Duffee is brave for fighting Alistair are retarded. The difference in caliber and experience is down right silly.

    Wonder what Dana White is going to say about Duffee now. When he was in the UFC, he was Dana's knockout artist poster boy, now he's probably a nobody UFC reject

    First of all, he is the best striker in the division, and the only guys in the ballpark are JDS and Carwin. JDS was getting tagged by big country and couldn't finish him, so good luck with that. Carwin would be at a disadvantage as well, with Overeem's range. Even attempting to make the argument that anyone is a better striker in the division than Overeem is foolhardy.

    Secondly, you can say Overeem has only run over cans, but he hasn't been touched basically all year, in 7 fights. Tyrone Spong did the most against him, and Alistair came out a little slow against him (hesitation about the clinch in K1, a rule created because he nearly Fujita/Texeira, plus conserving energy to win the tournament, which he did). Who in the current heavyweight landscape constitutes a quality win, nowadays? The UFC has JDS, Brock, Carwin, and Cain as their top 4, with almost no one else in the division warranting a mention - Roy Nelson is their 5th best HW, and while I like Roy, he is a 205lb fighter with a 60lb spare tire. (Mir doesn't get mentioned after sleepwalking with Mirko for 3 rounds - gross.) By extension that means that most of the UFC's top fighters have predominantly low quality wins as well. Overeem passes the eye test better than all of those guys except Cain.

    The best reason why you should accept Overeem as #1 - NO ONE WANTS TO FIGHT HIM. Fedor has been ducking him CONSTANTLY for 2 years. Werdum wants no piece of him, either.

    Also, Duffee was smart to take the fight (now that he has survived it)

    He lost a fight to a fighter so good that it scarcely harms his reputation, he got paid, and if he had won his career would have skyrocketed. Even at a 5% chance it was worth the gamble.

    I am sorry, and as a huge Reem fan, he has not beaten anyone that constitutes a good win. I am not saying he couldnt win against top UFC guys, but he has not proven it at this point. I would love to see him in the UFC as a fight with JDS/Cain or Carrwin would be fun as hell. Personally, I think he destroys Carwin and is fairly even with JDS. I think Cain mauls him.

    Because he's a K-1 champ, he's the greatest MMA HW? That doesn't make any sense at all. Plus, the clinch rule has been in K-1 for years and was not made because of Alistair. Like I said, he still hasn't fought a great fighter at HW in MMA with his best wins against Kharitonov and Rogers. He has a great skill set and is on paper an elite HW, but I can recall him gassing out at 205 and him having no heart once he's been tagged.

    I also find it hilarious that Fedor would be ducking Overeem. Overeem's focus this whole year has been to win the K-1 GP and he put his MMA career to the side to accomplish that. When exactly would he have had time to prepare for a fight with Fedor, not to mention Overeem has started to move like molasses.

    Overeem would get mauled by any power wrestler as his footwork has gotten very slow as his LBM has increased. He can get away with it in K-1 because the type of footwork needed is much different in terms of base, width, and balance.

    It's not UFC; it's MMA. Overeem's ground game is solid. He did win the European ADCC trial a few years back.

    this is part of the reason I think Cain would be the one to dominate him. His wrestling would be too powerful and I think he would be careful enough to stay out of Reems guillotine. I would still love to see Reem fight more MMA as a fight with Fedor could be fun. I could see him mauling Fedor, however, if Fedor got it to the ground, I see Reem's heart going out

    Hell, if it goes out of the 1st, Overeem's heart literally give out. I think the factor that has always been overlooked and disregarded about Fedor (and Cain to some extent) is that the main reason for their dominance in a division filled with beasts is their speed. It may not be technical in a boxing sense, but Fedor's hand speed is unparalleled.

    You don't think Fedor is ducking Overeem? Overeem, the guy that holds the title in the federation fedor fights in, but somehow their "best" fighter never challenges for? And then there was the request for AO to undergo olympic style testing for the fight. If you don't think Fedor is ducking Overeem (granted his m1 management is making the decision, but its still Fedor's camp and they know at the very least the fight is too high risk to take)

    Overeem slow? What fights have you been watching, man?

    I'm unsure how overeem handles a wrestler - he does have a good bit of experience off his back, and stuffing a double leg from even the most powerful wrestlers isn't at all impossible (just ask brock).

    It took 3 years before Overeem defended his title in SF and most of that was without Fedor in the organization. What was his reasoning for not defending it during that time? When I say slow, watch his feet during his fights. They're planted into the ground and he has lost a ton of speed over the years as he's bulked up. His hands are very powerful, but plodding and the K-1 style hasn't exactly been successful in MMA throughout history (e.g. Leko, Schilt, LeBanner, Hunt). The only K-1 standout to really do well was Mirko, but that was also in a ring; once he moved to a cage, he didn't fare nearly as well.

    As for stuffing a power DL, you do realize that the only people to stuff Brock's shot were Cain (D1 All-American during a very competitive time in the NCAA HW division) and Carwin (D2 Champ) right? Overeem does not have anywhere near the wrestling credentials to claim that he can do the same. He has some experience off his back, but not at HW and against some monster wrestlers.

    Not taking anything away from his K-1 title last month, but if Gokhan Saki had fought Overeem first it would have been a totally different outcome IMO.

    Duffee had 2 fights in the UFC and was kicked out. He was never a poster boy of KO's, apart from the usual marketing machine making the most out of a highlight reel to promote a fighter, but Todd wasn't any kind of poster anything. You can bet Anthony Pettis cage kick will be used to promote the hell out of Anthony when his UFC event is coming up.

    by the way....I am assuming you all heard about TUF 13. Lesnar v. Dos Santos

    I respect Brock and all....but how in the hell is he a coach after 7 fights? Probably great ratings, but a coach? He better bring his whole team with him

    Well, he is a D1 champ wrestler, so he has some major credentials. I'd say he has way more actual credentials than Chuck did as a coach.

    On a side note, I hate this matchup as it takes away one of the few viable contenders to the HW title. IMO, Carwin, Lesnar, and JDS are the major contenders, but this fight knocks one of them off for about 18 months or so. I know Cain won't be back until the Fall, but JDS was already supposed to given a title shot, but now he has to re-prove his status.

    At this given moment, I like SF's HW division much, much more as there are more intriguing matchups. I can see Fedor, Overeem, Barnett, and Werdum all having legit shots at winning the tournament. Hell, even old AA and Sergei might show up and throw everything for a loop.

    I agree. Brock having been a competitive athlete his whole life, being under coaches his whole life, having team mates, being able to relate to a team mentality and having once been the cream of the cop in his discipline, makes him one of the more qualified fighters to '"coach." Granted, Brock's not the most savvy in the complete spectrum of MMA, but that's why they bring in specialists. Brock may not have much to offer in the striking department, but he can certainly coach wrestling. For BJJ and Stand Up, I'm sure he'll have some specialist with him.

    That said, I don't like the match. It's too soon in my opinion, but it is what it is.

    I understand what you guys are saying to a point. He should be great in certain areas...however, for a fully developed mixed martial artist, I just dont see it. I do agree also that Chuck was a coach in name, but his career was far more varied and established imo

    I hear you, but there really hasn't been a lot of full-spectrum MMA'ist coach that show.

    Big Nog = BJJ, I guess he's suppose to be a good striker, but you could have fooled me.

    Tito = Strictly GnP Wrestler

    Chuck = Pure striker with wrestling he never uses short of sprawling.

    Mir = BJJ'ist, self renowned "good" striker.

    BJ = Boxer/defensive BJJ'ist, seriously lacks wrestling.

    Shamrock = Wrestler

    Kos = Wrestler

    GSP = closest thing to a full spectrum MMA'ist.

    Rampage = Not a coach at all.

    The list leans heavily toward single discipline emphasized fighters like Brock, then a full spectrum MMA'ist. Most fighters have some very biased emphasis.

    I agree that he has some major holes in his game, but being a HW champ in and of itself qualifies you.

    Tons of holes, but again, that's why these coaches get to bring in specialists of their choosing, to cover said holes (or emphasize a strength on occasion.)

    I think it'll be interesting to see how Brock handles having camera's in his face for weeks on end. He's kinda kept it pretty exclusive besides the lead up to his last fight. It would be interesting to see him grab a male nurse by the neck and have a bunch of smaller dudes trying to pull him off. It will look like action figures climbing on King Kong.
    *only slight exaggeration*

    One more thing: I wouldn't say BJ lacks wrestling. He is a great defensive wrestler; his technique isn't exactly orthodox as he uses his flexibility and agility more than sprawls/underhooks/cross-faces, but still very good. He's a full MMAist in the sense that he has a pretty even amount of wins by submission and strikes. The only thing that BJ is really lacking from his arsenal is leg strikes as he seldom uses them, but his superior boxing makes up for that.

    Wow Ive been under a rock , this is the first I have heard about Brock on TUF. This should be interesting as someone already said to see how Brock handles the cameras and all .
    I have a feeling we will see either a very boring season with Brock or he will play it up for the cameras and over sell himself. Either way I will be watching to see how it unfolds.
