    Labs - What next?

    54 year-old male, good health, 5'9, 205-210, ~ 10-12% BF.

Energy levels pretty okay, but recently hitting the wall libido-wise.

During recent annual blood tests the following basics:

    Test - total - 363 ng/dl (ref range 250-1100)
    Test - free - 86.4 pg/dl (ref range 35-155)
    Test - free% - 2.38 (considered High; ref rnage 1.5-2.2)

All well and good, but not what I call optimal, not where I would like to be.

Scheduled for follow-up visit in two weeks with PCP.

I would appreciate notions on what follow-up tests would be useful and any other info to use going forward.

    Thanks.

Speaking of your Testosterone problem, it is important that you figure out first if you are primary (weak testis) or secondary (weak signal to tell testis to increase production).
    So,
do not rush with supplementation, test first.
    Check

    LH
    FSH
    Prolactin

Sometimes you may have enough testosterone produced, but it is converted to quickly into Estrodial (E2), in this case you would want to slow down E2 production.

Sometimes testosterone goes to quickly straight into urine, wasted.

So, depending on your patience, mind set, doctor you choose, other circumstances, you may get better or lesser quality help.

Since you have made it to 54yo in good health, you most likely to not have any basic problems, just some misalingnment.

Thanks much. I was thinking along the lines of excess aromatization myself, so I was figuring on having estrogen levels tested, in addition to LH. But ultimately I would also love to see the Test numbers get above low normal levels to look more like normal for someone half my age.

I also figured that since my health and energy levels are good and no depression is evident, that it is likely a "normal" decline that needs some readjustment.

Thanks for your input. I will check out your post #44.
