I am 41 yrs old and feeling like hell. I still workout but my energy levels have gone way down. I am supplementing. It helps some but I am still very tired throughout the day. I went to a sports medicine doctor about a month ago and told him my problems of lack of energy. He did a blood test, which included a test for testosterone. He emailed me the results and said that I am fine. He said that my testosterone is normal. My test levels are on the low side of normal. Has anyone had any luck in finding a doctor in Houston who isn't afraid to prescribe testosterone?

Hello neighbor. good luck on your search. I live in the Houston area also. No luck down here, so I finally went up to see Dr. John.

I have an appointment with a Dr. Patel (an Indo.) the 27th of this month who said he would run the blood test Dr. John perscribed. That will be covered by my insurance.

As of now I have not made any progress with my goals, but the game is not over yet.

Kathy Jackson and Phil Pylant certainly know their stuff. Phil has a very large HRT business, but I'm not sure how much men's HRT he does.

JanSz,
Those that I mentioned here and on the other thread are just pharmacists I happen to have known to some extent for several years now. We all belong to a couple of organizations and I run across them once or twice a year at conferences and/or over the internet on a message board.

You have been of tremendous help, RPHMark,
thank you.

Suggestion, would you please encourage your acquaintances to post list of recommended doctors on their websites,
like Campbell's Pharmacy did.

We used to worry too much about stepping on the drs. toes to reccomend one over another. But with the interest in bio-identical HRT exploding, we have found that if they don't get the message then we will send pts to drs who do. I would like to see a centralized list of drs who know HRT and do it well.

I so agree. A list of HRT doctors would be great.

This is horrible advice, that being said, just buy a couple hundred ml's of Test E....dose yourself 200mg ew...most that get involved with HRT end up using more steroids later down the road anyways....much cheaper to just start doing your own maintenence dose,Thats my horrible advice for the day...

I found a doctor that I can use my insurance with. Thanks JanSz, you've been a big help. My appointment is for 9/7. I don't expect anything during that visit as it will just be for drawing blood. I will report back what happens after that. Thanks!

If you cannot do better, do what you can.

Better choice would be
blood test per my list post #44

http://anabolicminds.com/forum/male-anti-aging/66268-jans-bloodtest-april13-2.html

and done at Quest, blood drawn at Quest.

Take with you the list and ICD-9 codes.

I looked at your link but I'm still somewhat confused as to what the list and ICD-9 codes are. How will they help? I know my insurance uses Quest Labs. Is that bad?
You have a good setup.
You can use Quest and your insurance have no problem reimbursing PROPERLY made bills.

ICD-9 code is a diagnosis of your condition made by doctor.
That is his reason for requesting the blood test at Quest.
If there is no reson provided or the reason (ie diagnosis) does not match with the purpose of test, the insurance will refuse paying the bill.

At Quest, during initial workup, they may point to you some possibility of this type of problems on some items that are about to be tested. They will give you a form to sign, stating that if insurance does not pay, then you are responsible for the bill.

I've been going to the Longevity Center of Houston ( 713-522-4037 ) for several years. I get Testosterone pellets every 4 months along with HCG. The Drs ( Marina and Gurney Pearsall ) try to prescribe test pellets with a goal of ~1000ng/dl and they're usually spot on.

I agree, they're not cheap and they'd like to get me on other programs like Lipid Exchange, HGH/Semorelin, etc.; however, they are the only clinic in this part of the U.S. that does pellets implants. I've done AndroGel before ( ~ 1 year ), but I really like the pellets much better. I've recently started incorporating HCG ( 500ml 2X/wk ) to see if I can prevent the drop-off I usually experience during the last few weeks before the next pellet implant. And I said previously, they're quite happy when my bloodwork comes back with TT levels in the 950-1250ng/dl range.

1. how much they charge you for the pellets?
Abouth month ago Vforcer2 had a post where he spelled the price for pellets. Rather resonable. I think it is a chain SotoPele, and he got new lady doc. His previus was very expensive, he had to go for shots for a while.

2. What kind of programs they offering you, other than the two you already mentioned.
I have very resonable doctor, if there is something worth while, I am sure I could swing it with my doc for a minimum price.

3. what is Lipid Exchange program, any details?

4. If you have a drop off, cant you just put in the new pellets 2-3 weeks earlier?

Answering your questions in order:

1. How much? Total cost each time I get a pellet implant is ~$600.

2. What kind of programs? They've talked to me about HgH and ( just recently ) Semorelin - $278/mo. They've lots of other services they offer, depending upon what you're looking for ( don't see myself doing Botox ;) ). I'd recommend checking the website for more details.

3. What is Lipid Exchange? Kinda fuzzy on the details, but it's basically an IV transfusion technique which claims to detox the liver. If you do a web search, you'll find lots of info on the process. Not posting a link here so as not to incur the wrath of the Mods.

4. Get the implants a month early? Well sure, I could do that, but that's 4x/yr vs 3x/yr. The "drop-off" isn't bad; I mainly notice that the "Dr Pepper" wood ( i.e, 10am, 2pm & 4pm ) occurs less frequently ( 2 or 3 days/wk ) during the last month; during the first 2-3 months, it's like EVERY day. Morning and evening wood is a given throughout!

Thank you.

Everytime I hear of succes story on pellets I think of
"pulsing" that dr John was talking about (withou really explaining the details).

Young men testosterone levels are varrying thruout the 24 hr period.
Older men have much flatter levels of testosterone.
Charts are posted that show those differences.

Levels on pellets are the flattest one can get.
It appears that it may not be important in greater scheme as long as the levels are right.
============================================

My guess is that pellets are best for people whos SHBG levels call for TotalT levels of about 1000.
Looking at dr Shippen's chart and thinking of FreeT~(160-250)
that would be SHBG~(25-50)
another words,
if my theory is right,
people with low SHBG should not be a good candidates for pellets.

What is your SHBG?

Albumin 4.4 3.6-5.1 g/dL
SHBG 9 8-46 nmol/L
T(Free) 380 34-194 pg/mL
T(Free & Weakly Bound)
764 84-402 ng/dL

Do you have your past levels of SHBG.

If you are driving your SHBG down it may not be a good thing to do.

Estrogen Metabolism
To raise SHBG drink soy milk.

I'll have to check the records from my previous draws. BTW, I understand that soy tends to whack one's T levels(?)

Read the attached research, so far that is the only thing that (supposedly) raises SHBG.
As with many things it may be a balancing act.
I have no more knowledge on soy milk or other ways to raise SHBG.
Well, high E2 is supposed to raise SHBG, so I would say keep it at least close to the top of desirable range, carefull with any AI's when very low SHBG is present.

I live in the Houston area, and deal with pretty much deal with doctors who work with BHRT and things like chelation centers.

If you are in the Houston or the surrounding areas, these are the doctors I recommend.

Sugar Land:
Meridian Medical Dental - Dr. Liza Leal great doctor one of the smartest in Houston, but the staff is so/so and the desk person is very forgetful/busy/lazy.

Dr. Shelena Lalji (mostly works with women's BHRT though - former OB/GYN)

Inner Houston:
I do not like working with or dealing with The Longevity Center (they are so expensive)

Dr. Ridha Arem - More of a thyroid doctor but does tons of hormone work (is Oprah's Endo)

Dr. Richard LeConey - Anti Age Institute

Dr. Keshwani - Med-Cure Anti-Aging and Skin Care

Katy/Memorial Area:
Dr. Anoop Chatervudi - Amaya Anti- Aging Center

Laura Mendez R.N. in the office of Kimberly Brady M.D.

Clear Lake/Webster:
ICON Center & Wellness - Dr. John Johnston

Woodlands:
Woodlands Wellness and Cosmetic Clinic - Dr. Sakina Davis

These are just a few that I have worked with and actually know they are going to look out for you and don't care about the $$ side.

In terms of pharmacies, the most experienced in BHRT is going to be Piney Point Pharmacy and they have a website as well www.gethormones.com

Hope that helps and sorry to drag up such an old thread.
