Hypotthyroid and low testosterone

A little about myself, I'm a 29 year old male. I have always been fit and active. over the past two years I have hit a brick wall with strength gains and started to put on body fat. Started feeling tired all the time and started struggling with anxiety. I finally decided to see my family dr. who right away wanted to do a couple blood test ( I have a family history of thyroid problems) My results came back showing a high TSH 7.1 (Hypothyroidism) and my Total Testosterone at 266. My dr. wanted me to start Synthroid right away at a dosage of 50mcg. He is not wanting to do anything about my Testosterone levels at all. For my age the average is around 600 and for any age under 300 is considered low! Should I push him a little on treating my Testosterone or just let it go?

I would blood test your iron, D3, and B12.

Before I took T4, I would supplement 600mcg methylcobalamin, (edited, 500mcg Dibencozide), 200mcg iodine, and 150mcg selenium daily, for a few months and
retest your TSH, FT4 TT4, TT3, FT4 and thyroid antibodies.

As for your TT..... you need to know your TT, FT, E2, SHBG, LH, FSH, DHEAs, DHT, prolactin, etc. before you think about TRT.

I totally agree with this. Too many people want to jump on TRT without finding the cause of their low T. Sometimes the cause can be treated without TRT. Great advice!

So my family dr. Set me up with a specialist I go on the 2nd. He did run one more test and my prolactin levels came back high, not quite sure what that means with all the other findings. The specialist will run more blood work and wants to find the cause of all this before we start any treatment. This was my first time posting so thank you for your guys input!!

You are high, but in range, on Quest and Labcorp basic Prolactin blood tests.

Fooling around with lowering your Prolactin levels without first getting a complete set of
hormone blood tests is not a good idea.

Excellent. Do not do anything until you meet with them to avoid added variables.

my test levels came back to a 271 when i was tested last week. (I'm 28) Doctor said i had low vitamin d and low cholesterol which can lead to decreased test levels.....so i am going to try to fix those values (vitamin d and cholesterol raise) and see if it does anything to my test levels. I am hoping it helps, so I don't have to start trt. Cause having low test is not fun. I would definitely try to see whats causing the low test and attempt to fix that as recommended above before hopping the trt bandwagon .... gl

You're doing exactly what you should be doing. You don't want to be on TRT unless you absolutely need to. None of us "want" to stick ourselves every week but we wouldn't give it up for the world because we know we have to be on it.

I had the same issue. I'm 27. I went two years feeling like absolute dog ****. I didn't understand TSH levels and thought it was low T. I had my levels checked multiple times and no matter how well I supplemented and ate my T levels kept dropping. What I didn't I noticed after my TSH levels kept going up was my T levels kept dropping. I went a year staying off all anabolics, even stopped lifting from feeling burned out. I got my levels tested again last September and my TSH levels were at 7.49 and my T levels were 390. Doctor prescribed me thyroxine @ 75mcg. After 3 months I had blood work done again and my TSH was at 1.47, total T @ 600 and free T @ 143 pg/ml on a scale of 47-244. Needless to say I feel 110% better. I also supplement daily with fish oil, zinc, magnesium complex, vit C, and nettle root. I would hold off on the TRT until you get your bloods done after the thyroid treatment. From what I've read and from what through Dr has told me it takes up to 3 months for the medicine to take full effect.

Low vitamin D can cause test levels to drop as well, and low thyroid can affect a variety of biochemical factors that also negatively impact testosterone.
Synthroid is not enough to restore the other thyroid hormones; T4, and T3...
Take forskolin and oleuropein-olive leaf extract with it. That's for T4/T3 conversion.

Get a full hormone panel as the kind fellas said above, and it wouldn't hurt to check serotonin and norepinephrine levels by doing a 24 hour urine test. For,
5-HT1AA ;serotonin metabolite
NORMETANEPHRINE/METANEPHRINE ; adrenaline metabolites; your GP/Doc can order these easily.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
High serotonin is sometimes an overlooked cause of both low thyroid and low test levels

Can you post the result of your thyroid tests? Some of your levels can be in range but be on the low end. That can be enough to cause issues sometimes.

Turkx, never ran a real cycle, I did try pro hormones back in the early 2000's ran two cycles but for nothing crazy from them. I will say after 12 years of lifting the thought dose come to me ever once and awhile.

Well if so I have no idea why your levels are lower than my 60 year old dad at 29. PH is still a steroid regardless of being a pill it can shut you down in a period of 6-8 weeks. Try to fix your thyroid naturally first, like one guy said iodine and selenium daily can help. Your test is low as ****,what is your free test range?

I don't know my free testosterone yet. I go see a endocrinologist Monday he will be checking free test, t3 t4 , e2, and a a handful of other things. My father did have testicular cancer but my family dr. Feels safe that that's not an issue from my fist lab test.

PH=ORAL STEROID
It will ruin you worst than real steroids.
If you had a pre-existing condition and used them, you could have made it worst.
What PH did you run?

I understand what a Ph is, my education is in dietary management and supplementation and physical therapy. I ran 1-andro the first time and epistane was the second. Both times where with a proper pct with a serm and hcg. I did this over 10 years ago and felt completely normal up until this started over the past two years. So I find it hard to believe two (well under dosed) pro hormone cycles from that long ago is the cause of my current situation.

The biggest reason I made this post was to see if anyone with both my problems (hypothyroidism and low T) did treatment for one or both of the conditions. And what there results where.

no problem, not flaming.. i have low t at the moment (271) and I'm only 28 . I had low vitamin d though and cholesterol . So I am trying to raise both and see if that works. if not, i might have to go trt road but not until I've tried everything else.... my thyroid was find. Did you run hcg properly? I heard that it can cause damage of not used properly.. Also, your doctor may want to see if the cause of the low t is because oy your thyroid. So he is treating that first... I would start the thyroid treatment then get retsted low for t.

From my research I ran the HCG correctly but then again there's a lot of bogus information floating around back then. For what I can tell the thyroid can cause other hormone imbalances. I don't believe myself that if working properly (fixed with treatment) it can more than double my test levels to get me at beast in the middle of the normal range. I guess only time will tell. My family dr. Told me his reason for not treating both from the start was to know if I was having any side effects we could know what treatment was the cause. I under stand his reasoning I'm just impatient and want to feel "normal" for my age.

32 yo male with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. As a result, testosterone levels are low. You need a more thorough thyroid panel with auto antibodies which would indicate an auto immune condition. In my case, dealing with my adrenaline fatigue and removing gluten from my diet positively affected all down stream hormones. Obviously, this is a very brief explanation of my own circumstances.

Removing gluten helps a lot of things, as does replacing normal bottled water and tap water with "black water".
Any man with dopamine issues and liver issues at the same time should also look into taking a sup called "Shilajit".
Shilajit helps detoxify your body and hook and remove heavy metals like mercury, lead and excess copper...it also boosts dopamine and lowers serotonin so it can help cortisol issues as well.
