To try and get TRT or not? Testosterone level is low

Ok quick basics, in Jan of this year i was have some kind of health issues causing me to have numb hands/arms (both sides), heavy brain fog-- forgetting simple things, heavy lethargy so bad that if i went to the food store, i would have to take a nap in the car to get enough energy to drive home. This made me seek medical care to see what the hell was going on. Did some simple blood tests (sugar, cholesterol, rbc, wbc tsh)... Got those results back and of course cholesterol was threw the roof 303 total ldl 232 hdl 71 , had elevated blood pressure 140/90 and tsh was on the higher side 3.8.. I got the typical, diet and exercise and i was but on a very low dose statin and told to come back in 3 months... So i took a stab at it, back to the gym, eating good, but no real improvement in the way i was feeling. Was not a fun time, at times i would have a racing heart rate, then feel very tired, the more i did or the more i added gym time in (was only doing cardio 4-5 days @ 40 min) and it just got worse as far as energy/outlook on life, just an overall blahhh feeling and 6 weeks into going back to the gym i had to cut back on the days as it was really taking a lot out of me and still was feeling really bad. So another 6 weeks go by and i see the doc again, nothing really changed, still feel bad and question the tsh being so high. Well that maybe an issue so she ran a full blood panel, full thyroid test, testosterone, diabetes/sugar as well as the standard liver/kidney function... Get the results back and the cholesterol came way down 303 down to 230, sugar was fine, thyroid went down to 2.1, liver/kidneys were all in the middle of the range but total testosterone came back @ 400... She said this maybe the issue but im just above the cut off to be treated (350).. I have noticed a heavy drop in sex drive over the past 3 years (most of which was over the last 6 months), i often get testicular pain like someone had just smacked my nuts. I dont know if low test would cause that kind of ache/pain.. As part of my visit i was put on a low dose blood pressure pill as she felt it was still too high 133/90 and told to come back in 6 weeks..

On this next visit im going to request a full testosterone panel. She is all for treating it if i drop down under 350 and did say that might be were all my issues are coming from as my dad had low test (280) and is now currently in the 650-750 range. Now how messed up is that, he is 58 and has a higher test level than i do and i at the bottom of the range but just high enough to not be put on it and if i were to be put on it what would i be brought up to, much higher than what im at right now... So do i try and tank it the 50 points i need or do i wait for another test and see where its at..

What is your height, weight and fat%? You say you have testicular pain, did your doctor check into this? Are you using AAS or PHs?

Way too much involved for us to recommend anything here. 400 levels of test is not a reason to go on TRT and almost positive not a factor here. Secondly, going on BP medication at 130/90 levels is insane. I would not take them and try something natural like hawthorne or natto to get it lower- even though that is not high. Is it optimal- no, but no way I'd be taking medication for it.

400 T level is fine. If anything, the doc ought to consider something to boost ur natural production rather than kill it with TRT. If my restart lands me in the 400's then I'd consider it a success.

What comes to mind for me is a low dose of Clomid and a moderate dose of Formestane. That could very well get things going again and send u well beyond the 600's...

I'm not a doctor, but I have a great deal of experience regarding hormones and what not. I'd steer clear from TRT unless u are committing to competitions and PL and u want to blast and cruise a few times per year. Even then, u need to weigh the pros and cons carefully before jumping on TRT.

If ur T was less than 300, perhaps. But it isn't so I'd go other routes.

I started TRT with levels of ~310-320, but then again, I had (have) a varicocele and a pituitary microadenoma, so basically I was SOL with no other choice / options. I had tried everything though. Try to find out the reason for the low test before ever starting any therapy.

130/90 is borderline hypertensive and can be dangerous over time... This is exactly where I was at when I started my BP med... and the user's BP is 140/90. I take an ARB, which has no side effects and works very well. Cozaar (losartan potassium). Even makes erections a bit better. No effect on libido.

Could also just use Cialis, lol. Nitrates in general seem to work well.

L-Carnitine does a lot for me in this area too.

I normally used to run at the 130-135/80ish range and I just started taking hawthorne and natto and it came down about 10pts on average. I just think docs are way too ready to give a script without other options.

True, but ARBs are like magic haha... the best BP meds out there. Everything else causes libido issues.

I've recently switched to Olmesartan (Benicar). It's a bit more expensive, but absolutely no sexual side effects in clinical studies, and works really well.
