Hey guys I got at testosterone test done at my PCP. My level is 320. Reference range is 241-827. So supposedly that is "fine". I don't know though, been looking online and that's way below average for 85 + years old. I'm 41. Don't know what to do next. Just kind of blown away that that could be considered a normal level for my age.

I hear ya, I'm 27 and got a 363 on my test and was told its in the normal range. I went to an Endo and she ran a full test and then got a 600 so perhaps the first test was off. Maybe see if you can get in with an Endo?

Yeah, I'm not sure. Just worried about how to get this stuff covered by insurance. Not sure they will cover it if I'm "in range".

320 is really low, regardless of being in range. When I went and got my first test at 36, I was sitting at 310 and the doctor told me to come back in the next week for another to make sure, and it was the same. That is when we started everything. No TRT, but a review of my lifestyle and a 3 month attempt to get things straightened out without adding anything. More sleep, diet changes, etc. When that did not do anything, I was referred to multiple endos and I am sure you have all read up on that journey. 3 different endos, bone scans, MRI, multiple labs, etc... In the end, it took about 6 months and my test before the decision came in at 287. I was always slightly irritated, low sex drive, working out twice as much to keep all my muscle, recovery times were slow, and I had brain fog.

The reason I write this is because you really want to think about options and find out what is really happening before making the choice. A simple testosterone test really tells you nothing. You have to dive in.

You are in a bad spot. Too high to get your doctor to prescribe TRT and too low to get the benefits of testosterone. It took me several years to get my doctor to prescribe test, but now that I on my level stays between 850 and 1250. I feel much better with high test.

No, they will prescribe in that range. All the docs I went to said that if you are in the 300's and have symptoms they would all prescribe.

Yes, you are right. It's just easier if you are below range. Many doctors who are afraid of Testosterone won't prescribe if you are in range. Many will prescribe but barely enough to reach the "normal" range.

Sometimes you have to shop around for a doctor that will do what you would like them to do.

Haven't had a new appointment yet. Just found this out Monday and I had to call. Actually had to ask what the exact numbers were because the nurse on the phone just said "your fine".

Maybe I can get a referral to an endo or HRT/TRT "specialist" because I don't necessarily trust my PCP with this.
Learn as much as you can about what options you may have before getting to far down this road.
Also the hrt "specialist" vs. PCP is a double edged sword. Some of these specialists don't want to receive any input from you on your treatment whereas a lot of PCPs may not be as knowledgeable but are willing to work with you on your treatment.

Does your insurance cover it?. I wouldn't think they would cover it, especially if you are in "range".
If your doctor prescribes it I think insurance would cover it. I don't think the doctor tells the insurance company what your level is, only that you need it.

Thanks. I've got to make a follow up appointment with my PCP and address this. I sent an email to an "Age Management Center" and they wrote me back saying to come in for a free consultation. From what I've read so far about these types of places though, they should be avoided and are just trying to sell you as much as they can. So I likely won't reply to that email.

Yeah man, be careful with the clinics. You'll walk out with a grand worth of stuff wondering why you have it.
