    Microsurgery for varicocele

What up everyone, since my embolization procedure wasn't a success, the Uro is going to tie of the veins through microsurgery. Has anyone had this procedure and care to share their experience here?

I had it ton on March 4th 2010, so far the results have been mixed, my testosterone went up slightly but it is now backed to where it was before the surgery. However the varicocele is gone and i don't hurt anymore. I had the surgery for hopes of testosterone recover though, and so far nothing has happened. After surgery in pain and swollen for about a week and then gradual improvement over another two weeks.

Tks for replaying, a quick question, on a scale of 1-10, how bad was the pain and discomfort. At pre-admission, the nurse emphasized a lot regarding the pain and them prescribing painkillers.

I had the conventional done. Pain wasn't bad at all. I was a little sore and felt I had to be careful when moving around but it wasn't any worse than doing some heavy squats after a long time off. I took my vicodin too just in case.

Pain in testicle is less now and my balls don't sag as much. I'm not sure about test levels. I took clomid for a week recently so it would be skewed anyways.

and the painkillers arent really necessary but it may help you sleep for the 1st night.

You're right man, after the surgery there was no pain as long I didn't directly touch or strain the surgical site. I have hardly used the pain killers they prescribed. The only minor issue was the nausea that was a side affect of general anesthesia which lasted for a couple hours while I was in the hospital. As soon as I took a gravol that was gone too.

Overall a pretty simple and painless ordeal, just hoping my test levels rise within a few weeks and testicle size returns to normal.

I think the difference of the pain i had and the pain others had from the surgery is where the actual cut was made. Mine was made directly into the scrotum, not the groin. The reasoning being yes it is more painful but, tie off the veins close to the testicle as possible lowers the odds of reoccurence.

Ah ok, mine is not even in the groin, slightly above it.

One other question, how long did it take for the veins to look normal? I assume it must have been at least a few weeks?

The veins never completely go away, but over time they become somewhat reabsorbed into the body. I got the surgery on March 4th and the veins are still there, but the blood has been deflated by now so it has shrunk atleast.
