Quad Numbness

This is not a gym injury and I'm not sure it negatively affects anything in the gym.

I work for local government, and until i got a truck to works out of 3 weeks ago I've been working out of a 2007 Malibu since 2013.

I had a habit of resting my leg against the door, the handle to be exact, and over time the constant pressure against my leg has made it permanently numb. The numbness amount fluctuates and recently my masseuse told me the quad feels very hot and inflamed. I figured transferring to the truck would have made it better. I've never really spent much time driving cars until now.

Ive iced it only twice, both times while standing. Im not sure if its because I'm standing but it was somewhat painful. More so than without ice.

I plan to try more ice and maybe some heating pad.

My question is, has anyone had anything similar happen? If so, I'd you recover? What did you do?

Here's my doctor dilemma- If i report it at work then the incompetent government is going to F sh!t up. I have two buddies out on workmanship comp. one hurt his back in March. He had surgery LAST WEEK. The other hurt his ankle. They didn't x-ray it on the first visit. They just said go home and rest for two weeks and let us know how it feels. Two weeks later and it still hurts so they x-ray, then say do rehab for two weeks and come back for an MRI if its not better. This week it wasn't better, so he went in for an MRI. They did nothing and sent him home for two weeks again. That's 6 weeks with not work, and they aren't doing anything to fix the issue.

I cant do that. Im in a good position with my job and I don't want time off and I don't want a government "fix".

If i go to my personal doc, which i may likely do anyway, then if its something permanent or serious i cannot turn around and get help from my job. Procedure requires that i use the city's process/doctor.

Anyway, i included this info before the first commenter says "go to the doctor".

Not at all. It's isolated to the lower to middle area of my outer quad

I have not had experience with your particular issue, but with injuries that get exasperated by the position my body is in ...while driving. I have found that simple adjustments like putting something between your leg and the door (possibly a little higher up in the leg) will relieve it directly and indirectly change the angle of the leg. Is your IT band tight? Is the quad numbness causing any other tension or is it seriously isolated to one place? If so, is the affected tissue hard (dying) or is their an adhesion (hard spot) that can be found around it (that may be cutting off nerve flow?

My vehicle changed a few weeks ago so I don't need the padding now.

The area feels hard I guess... a hard spot, likely? My best GUESS is that there is nerve damage as well.

Left IT band feels the same as the right and my masseuse agrees.

If their is no referral from something like a tight IT band or the hip, lower back etc..., it sounds like something local and underneath the spot is cutting off nerve / blood flow to that tissue. Could it be an infection possibly (underneath)? That's why I asking if its hard. Are any of the outer edges sensitive (you may need to push into the tissue to expose sensitivity).

Pressing into the muscle is slightly sensitive. Not much, and now I don't believe its hard. Just uncomfortable and numb.

My fear for you is that it will get bigger. My brother lost part of his leg due to not dealing with a hard spot that ended up being dead tissue caused by an infection. The infection was due to injection of Multiple Sclerosis related drugs. Anyhow, something is causing this....you should work with a Dr to get to the bottom of it. Good luck...

Can it get infected if the muscle was never exposed?

I have the exact same issue on my left leg for over 15years now and was told it's nerve compression, most likely from the sciatic nerve. Same area on my leg too. I used to sit on my right foot in my desk chair for years when I was working long hours.

It's there a remedy?

I haven't found one yet, but I want to. I haven't really focused on trying to fix it as much as some back problems I have.

Pretty soon I'll be seeing a specialist that might be able to shed some more light on it. Might be in a few weeks.

OK so I've got this issue with my calf, numbness down to the foot on the right side. If I do something as simple as sit on the John too long it goes numb. Mine is bad, the numbness causes the foot to be unmovable. I have to drag it around. It recovers enough to be usable again but takes months. There's always some lingering numbness on the surface. It scared me so I went to a neurology doc. He hooked me up to a freaking car battery (fancier but basically yes) and shocked me over and over again measuring the current on the other leg. At the end he said I have poor nerve conduction. I said what can I do and he said nothing. I've been dealing with it ever since.

It takes months to get full feeling back in your feet? You should see a new doctor...

Sometimes my legs go numb on the can and I can't walk after for a bit, but only takes a few min to get full feeling back when that happens.

Oh yeah apparently this is what poor nerve conduction means. If the nerve gets starved for any reason it has a beer difficult time reestablishing itself. Honestly I've had a few new doc's. They've all agreed. The general consensus is to keep healthy and try to avoid what causes it. I got me one of them fancy toilet seats with a cushion in it lol. The deal with it includes lyrica for the pain of the reactivation because the pins and needles sensation can last most of a month and there's no way to deal with that without a big dose of a calcium channel blocker. I've learned to work around it. It's happened to both wrists (those were bad, once each so far) both legs (90% right one, for a grand total of I think 5 times) my hip, back, and spots all over for a variety of reasons with no loss of functionality. So I'm always dealing with it at some level. Been like this my whole life. Got worse after a car wreck i was in, but has improved in recent years. I'm taking MK677 right now which is actually helping me out a good deal with the impact to my joints (from walking funny and loss of motion) but I won't go into that too much in this thread.

sespress have you ever had an MRI of your back or any back issues as well? One of my doctors feels that nerve issues in my leg might be stemming from my back

I have actually, I was in a bad car accident and had one after that. Thing is this predates the accident. But the MRI didn't get me anywhere. I've just come to expect some things are a bit of a mystery and doctors don't know everything.
