I ruptured my disk L5/S1in 2010 doing heavy deadlifts back when I used power lift. It was bad but because of a strong core I didn't need surgery. Just two epidural injections and a month of physical therapy. I was good to go just couldn't squat or dead anymore. In the last month It started bothering me, not bad but enough to have to take a week of from training. I think its because my lower back has gotten weak from not doing deads, squats, extensions etc.. for the last 6 yrs. I am looking for some good exercises to strengthen my lower back that won't give me any problems. I also train in BJJ/MMA, which gives me no problems.

I am jealous you have never had to have an op, I had two operations in november on l5/s1!

Extensions are bad for it, more things like planks and balance exercises, from what I have been given by my phsyio

That sucks, with the surgery. Planks are a good idea, i think I'm gonna add those to my workout.

I do goblet squats already. But I'm not sure about front squats. It still puts pressure on your lower back when you bend at the waist. Even with proper form.

I took a ton of yoga classes for months after a permanent back injury I suffered. Did me a world of good Started with 2 a week and worked up to 4-5 (even doubles), and shortly after I was back training again (plus got to be surrounded by booty for all that time).

How effective were the epidurals? I have a torn disc and doc has recommended transforaminal epidural injections L4-L5 and L5-S1. A little skittish about sticking needles into my spine. Between that and my lawyer delaying g it, they're not scheduledyet. But the pain is becoming unbearable.

Well the injections are a temporary pain relief, they do not cure or fix the problem im afraid. I have had 2 and had to have op anyway

I'm still having back pain 3-4 years after an injury. Going to give pentosan inj, BPC-157, GH and possibly low dosed dbol a shot to see if it will stem it. After all my research, these are the only things that could possibly do some form of repair without surgery.

If/when I do this, I will get x-rays/MRI's prior and post experiment, and may log it.

So I'm updating this thread. As far as how those injections worked the first time, they were great. They do a fluoroscopic injection around the sciatic nerve, not into it. They basically monitor it on a screen as they are doing it.
So here it is a month later. It has gotten worse. Basically on sick leave until July 22 then will talk to my spine specialist again. After the initial post my sciatica got worse. I am on anti inflammatory and Tramadol for pain. I have not touched a weight or trained MMA in a month . The good news is it has gotten better. Haven't taken a Tramadol in about 5 days. Leaving on vacation to Mexico Friday so I will just be careful. All inclusive resort so I will just be laying around the pool and beach drinking. Fortunately it's looks as though rest will be the only thing I need, no injections this time. I will update this post after my next doctor visit.
