Study Tips

I know there are quite a few college aged individuals around here. Some seem to be pretty dang smart too.

Anyway, I have a problem. I find it soo hard to motivate myself to study for things that I don't particularly enjoy, like chemistry. Other classes, nutrition and such, that have everything to do with my major, I rather enjoy studying for.

So, I need some help here. How do you guys motivate yourself to study the junk that you can't stand? And how do you do it effectively?

You tell yourself you need to do well on this test because you need this class and you tell yourself you need this class because you need this degree and you tell yourself you need this degree to get a decent career and you tell yourself you need a decent career so you can afford a gym pass and good supps to keep working out

Kidding about the last part, sort of. If you can train yourself to see things in a big picture, long run perspective instead of the now, you can find relevence in studying for the mundane and seemingly irrelevent subjects.

Finding motivation for stuff you have no interest in is difficult, but all you need is to realize the value of it and place a heavy sense of relevence to it and it'll suffice.

I have to try and tell myself, "I'm interested in this class" every few min when I'm in those boring classes to keep my head above water.

Cheers and good luck

You need to do something you are inherently interested in. If not, then you have to motivate yourself somehow.

Dont be test smart. That is, learning something, taking a test and then forgetting what you learned.

You have to find something you like, and you'll enjoy studying and learning about it.

Stimulants may help as well

if you are making an effort to do really well in your other classes, like getting an A, push yourself to not just get an A but a 4.0 gpa. i have this burning rage to be good at everything i do, its more like a disease, but thats what keeps me motivated.

Getting through nursing school involved at ton of studying, and a ton of booze. I've always found study groups or something that's more interactive a good way for learning things that aren't very interesting. Sometimes you can learn to make it more tolerable by trying a different method of studying, or memorization technique.

That's how i got through some of the more boring subjects while in college. Give it a try, it just may instigate some new motivation.

Study groups are great as Trauma mentioned because it will expose you to things you may have ignored and eventually come up on a test.

Talk to your teacher during his/her office hours and they'll most likely tell you what you don't need to know, which means there's less information you have to account for.

Take Test & Tren (j/k) I liked ephedrine with 5 rpm's and sulbutiamine or piracetam for mental enhacement.

You hit the nail right on the head here. I can't tell you how many times questions/material from the study group ended up on a test that i would never have gone over on my own......especially with nursing school material.

Let's see-the racetams (aniracetam, piracetam, etc), sulbutiamine, ALCAR, PLCAR are all good. Geranium, chocamine, HEAT are also good options.

I agree with Trauma, study groups for any subject, especially science related are the best. I know most of our semesters are short (like 3 -4 months) and you only see your classmates for about 3 hours per week, but I always try to make friends so I can study with them.

Everyone brings a different aspect of studying to the group, so it works well. Also you have FUN, and you will remember anything you studied and joked about at the same time (i still remember the vivid metaphase cycle from biology because of some 70s "drama" science video )

Other than that I also have problems getting motivated and leave it until the last minute. My problem is I pass with a C, when i study at the last minute, but I have a hard time motivating myself to study more the get the b and a I want.

One tip I would give you, which i use in college, is to make study notes when the teacher talks, - except make them humorous.

For example, when being taught cell division, i used to draw sex symbols for example Anaphase, would become ANAL PHASE, etc... and made it into a mini sex guide.

Childish, yes, but easy to remember in a test OHHH YEAH.

You remember things by association the best, so find your humor level and create humorous study notes. Guaranteed to make your grades go up!

Your attitude toward those subjects that are not your favourites also plays a crucial role. Try to consider them as something else other than "junk". This might be a good starting point...
