RIP Pops.

Thought I'd drop in before I leave to go take care of the details (I'm the oldest son - power of attorney).

Heart failure. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure back in September.
Visited him for a week around Xmas - found out his heart declined a surprising amount (in it's ability to pump blood out) between Sept and Dec.

I knew it would eventually give out.
Doesn't make it any easier though.

It's cliche - but during times like this you find out who your real friends are. I had several take a whole day off work to be at the funeral with me.

I've never cried so much in my entire life. Military funerals are so sad.

BTW - thanks A LOT to everyone for this thread. Just logged back in.

I think of you a couple times a day lately.

I lost my Grandfather three summers ago and I lost my Grandmother this last summer. I am a changed person as a result.

It's my hope that you can purge the pain and grief through very effective mourning until you find that place where the joy and laughter of thinking and speaking of him returns to you.

Again, I am very sorry for your loss and the pain you are working through.

God bless you and your family.

B - it's just been unreal/incredible - whatever word is right.

I couldn't fathom he was gone until we went to view the body a few hours before the funeral on Friday.

I do have the flag from the funeral. Need to get something to hang it up.

Don't ever let your kids go through this, B. Don't die. Become a vampire or something. (Or is that an oompa loompa??)

Only just read this, very sorry for your loss mate. I can understand where you're at, my father passed away 3 years ago at age 55 and I found it very difficult to deal with. And I couldn't view his body for reasons I won't go into. Add to that that my grandmother passed away last October and grandfather almost on Christmas day...

hang in there mate
