Go WW7 and the Matrix! Looking back and reading some of the web-sites that are dedicated to all the crazy symbolism and crazy facts about the movie, and watching it again always blows my mind. I've seen the first one at least 20 times....

Pumping Iron. That and Gattaca. Yes, Gattaca. Any bodybuilder's who's never seen it should...it's one of the most inspirational for me. (overcoming genetics is the theme.) Not many ppl know about it...Ethan Hawk, Jude Law, Uma Thurman.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - The movie follows the book closer than almost any other book adaptation I've seen.

Bump Baham on Gattaca.

Vladamir Nabakov's Lolita is another movie adaptation that follows the book as closely as any movie can.

Nice call. For me it is Goodfellas. Some soild indie films that I have seen recently are: Way of the Gun(Benicio f*cking rocks in this one), Requiem for a Dream (great flick), and City of God( about gangs in Rio, subtitled). These films are all pretty dark so be prepared.

Oh yeah, the worst thing that ever happened to Hollywood is special effects. It seems like now all "major" movies are special effects oriented or romantic comedies. Whatever happened to a solid script and good acting? The movies Hollywood is now sending out have no f*cking heart and no f*cking meaning. Just my 2 cents.

you know what....I have to agree with that!! About the only movies I can think of that have some depth as well as kickass special effects are: Terminator 1&2, The Matrix (haven't seen the second yet) and Lord of The Rings (all).

Special effects just don't impress me as much as a great plot and acting, never will. :)
