Standalone Divx (.avi) player FOR ALL GEEKS :D

Ok, so I (like many others I'm sure) have tons of movies downloaded from Kazaa and Emule, probably around 150 or so. I have stacks of CD's with the .avi file burnt on to it (didn't want to compromise quality at all and/or span CD's for VCD format). I don't mind VCD's, but from what I've done, it takes forever to reencode to mpeg format, and usually with good DVD rips we're talking many CD's per movie, and that just sucks.

So I want to be able to watch these movies on my TV (nice Sony WEGA!), but I'm not interested in a video out from my video card (they usually do compromise quality and I don't want to be limited by a cord from a PC to a TV, be it S-video or composite). I also have a DVD burner at work, but again the process of reencoding these to .vob's takes forever per movie, and that just sucks (if it takes too long I'll buy the damn DVD, convenience is a point here!) :D

So I saw this DVD player that came out a few months ago in Europe, the only one of it's kind so far that I know of. It plays Divx encoded files version 3 and above (not sure about Xvid encoding, but I think so). Has anyone read much about it? Yes I've done my research, I usually micromanage every purchase decision but want opinions if anyone has one :D

here's the link to buy: http://www.bigbuyz.com//detail.asp?product_id=DP%2D450

link for company page: http://www.kiss-technology.com/

They are hard to get in the US if anyone was wondering. Am I the only nerd who wants this? :D

thats tight.  the only problem is that some movies are encoded in smr, or divx3-alpha so you would have to reencode them.  iy gets kind of sloppy with audio. anyway kazza and emule are good for emergencys but aol cervers are way better

I've seen these around for a while, and they're pretty sweet, but they have their shortcomings. I don't see any support for any other codecs than divx, including the increasingly popular XViD. If it supported XViD then I would definitely buy it the next day (so you aren't the only one weave). Which one do you want weave, the 500 or the 450?

Some reviews for you to read over...

Thanks Sheesh, I was looking at the 450, I thought the only real benefit of the 500 was an ethernet port, which I don't need for the player.

I was under the impression that it uses some form of flashable RAM so that it may be upgraded later to use different codecs, and I have read that someone said they got an Xvid movie to play, but not certain.

ALso I have heard that all your files must have a CBR audio stream, not VBR, but I believe most do anyway. Tempting, very tempting...

Being someone that doesn't like topart with money (If I had any :D), I would just wait I while for some release group to do whatever to it.

Hell, the way most of these groups work, it's probably allready on emule.

Try making a request on the http://sharereactor.com or to a complete lesser extent, the http://filenexus.com forums.

You had me confused for a while, I thought you meant that you were going to wait for some release group to do something to the DP-500. Heh, realized you were talking about movies then realized i was dumb.

And why wait for some release group to re-encode it? Encoding is a very simple process, and can be a very short one as well for certain conversions/encodings...

Yeah I like that one, also doom9.org. Encoding isn't my issue, I want to not encode if at all possible, as downloadind files is all about convenience to me, and if I will have to spend the time encoding, I'll just buy the DVD's or get a good video out card. I'm hoping that these KISS players will keep up with the codecs out, then they will be invaluable.
