I hadn't seen a thread about it, so I'm starting one.

My entry: "My father's flag"
Greatest honor of my life was to take care of my father and my mother.

Awesome Pic
Thank you. My wife took that while I was handed my father's flag. It was the most moving ceremony I've ever attended. All the people at the VA were amazing for us, and I'll never forget it. Two years of walking the grounds, and visiting with my dad. I recall a specific story. While speaking with my father's doctor, he walked off to go visit the bathroom. I lost track of him, and walked into a very large room filled with veterans. A moment later, a gentlemen spoke up and asked if I was looking for my father. He smiled and pointed me in the right direction. They always take care of one another. I thought that was amazing. (One of many stories).

Another if I may share. The night before my father passed away, I was not in a good way, and as I walked down the hallway with my head a bit low, I heard some small footsteps behind me closing fast, and suddenly a little girl grabs my hand and looks up at me. I manage to say "Are you going to be my wing man?" and she nodded 'yes'.. as her parents rush up and start apologizing for the bother. I said, it's the best thing to happen to me in a long time, and I smiled and exited to the lot.

And thats why as a Veteran I joined the VA...To help other Veterans. When my Father-In-Law Passed the Honor Gaurd Failed to Show Up. So no 21 Gun Salute. But, his Neighbor, a Vietnam 1st Cav Ia Drang Survivor, and Myself folded the flag for him, and I had the GREAT Honor of presenting my Mother-In-Law with his Flag. Being a 1st Cav Veteran myself, and being able to do funeral Detail with one of my Brothers for my wife's father. It is a moment I will NEVER Forget

That flag that sits on my counter now. Will one day drape my coffin, and will be issued to my family before my burial, and I unfortunely realize that now.

Great thread and thank y'all for sharing the pictures! Appreciate the service of the men and women that have given it all for this country as well as the vets that made it home. I realize today is a remembrance of those who fought and died for this country but I'm thankful for what we have and hope we hold onto what so many have fought and died to keep alive.

That is the problem...Too many feel that it is a holiday. Its not...it is a day to remember those who are the greatest ever to serve our Country. The one's that are no longer here. But, too many think of it as a day to BBQ, and a day off of work

It's about educating and letting the people know the life's and materialistic things we hold so highly are ALL because of the most selflessness acts one can achieve. These people are the foundation of this Country.
