Title says it all, how many of you conceal carry? Whatcha like to carry every day and do you have a preferred holster or must have upgrades on your gun?

I personally just sold my XDs and black dog concealment holster and am getting a smith and Wesson M&P shield in 9mm. A great deal slimmer and lighter plus I like the way they shoot.

S&W Bodyguard and will be acquiring a Sig P229 soon. I'm using a Fobus ankle holster and just a cloth holster for inside the waist. I'll most likely go with Fobus when I carry the Sig.

I've never had anything small enough for an ankle holster, do you ever feel like it's going to sling off or does it cant or wiggle when you walk? I've always been curious just how good they are.

It's not bad. I don't wear pants too often, though. The Bodyguard is small enough to conceal there. It's a step below your Shield. The Sig definetly won't be going on my ankle lol

What I really want is that PPS but I can't use paddle mag releases at all so shield it is. I've put hundreds of rounds through the M&P 9c and like that but the Saftey and double stack design I dislike for a ccw. Glock 19 I love but I can't shoot a Glock well compared to a Smith and Wesson or XDm/XDs

Never fired a Glock. Fired and XD45 before and loved it. Unfortunetly it's not legal in my state. I've shot Sig p229's for the last 8 years so I may stick with it.

Im looking into se hammerless snub nose revolvers for CC purposes. Any ideas on them?

Ruger LCR
Go get your hands on one. Fantastic little gun, I love it. I've shot it before and many Ruger revolvers. It's the best option IMO. Now the newer LCRx or whatever it's called is hammered but the original LCR is not its hammer less and is similar in sights to your bodyguard if I remember correctly. I believe you can walk out of the store for about $480. I've seen them online for $399 and in stores for $415-470 if I'm remembering correctly.

Currently all I have is a compact Glock 45. I carry it on my low back when I have an untucked shirt or jacket.

I've gone through so many handguns hat I wish I would've kept. Glock 19 will fit on your ankle if the pants are large enough. I always loved revolvers on my ankle, especially the S&W M&P 357.

I got my wife a Beretta Tomcat (.32). Very small gun with a round just barely smaller than a 9mm. She carries it in her purse, but it is small enough to keep in my pocket.

Maybe you're thinking of the Glock 29 that is a sub compact 10mm and the 39 is the sub compact 45. Glock's number designations get confusing real fast lol

Prob so. The sub 9 I didn't have for long. Loved it, but gave it to my brother.

The new gen 4's are pretty awesome. The grip and recoil spring are a big improvement. Trigger bar needs to be changed to an after market one but its a good upgrade from the last stock generation 3

I'm leaning towards getting a Glock 17, but my hands are small. I would like a small but heavy gun. Any suggestions?

Get a subcompact .45. If you're hands are too small for that you'll want a compact and probably a 9mm.

.45 shoots better out of a full sized barrel, but if you can't hold it you can't hold it.

I haven't gotten my concealed yet (I'm a lazy bum), but I own a 1911 and fully intend to carry it on my lower back in most instances.

A Glock 19 is about 1.5" smaller in frame length than a 17 and a 26 will be about 1.5" smaller in frame length again.
Once you load your gun you will add up quite a bit of weight fast so you shouldn't concern yourself too much with how it feels unloaded. My old XDm loaded had 20rds in it and weighed as much as a fully loaded full metal 1911.
I've shot quite a bit with female shooters and taught my mother and sister how to shoot over the last few years. Go to a local gun range that rents guns out and get your hands on a Glock 19 and Glock 26. With the pinky extension on the 26 there isn't much difference at all in grip in the guns and a 26 is more comfortable because it's lighter to carry and slightly more concealable. Next I'd recommend holding a Smith and Wesson Shield and then a Smith and Wesson M&P 9c (c meaning compact).

Have you shot much? A .380 ACP is a great carry option and the new Glock chambered in .380 is a great choice.

Almost forgot, the Ruger LC9s is a great option and the new version is striker fired so it's a much better trigger and easier to shoot. Doesn't cost any more (the "s" at the end is the designation for striker fire)

Thank you so much! This was my second time shooting and it was with a Glock 19. They didn't have an M&P when I went. Hopefully, they'll have it next time. The first time I went shooting, I used a Glock 17 and since it was outside, I had to shoot 15 yards away. Before I purchase a gun, I want to try out many and get more comfortable with them. I'm not after looks, I want something that I'm comfortable with. :)

how's the muzzle flip? Always wondered. Somehow I've never shot a compact 45. I've had many chances and been offered but always was distracted by a different gun.

it's not something you can't work around but it does take some getting used to. A 3.3 inch barrel with a 45 is rough at first. But I don't plan on having to shoot more than once!

What's a concealed weapons permit? Ohhhhh... that's that thing that everyone has to have that doesn't live in AZ ;)

I rock my Glock 27 (40) everywhere, it's the wild west out here ;)

You can carry concealed w/o permit?

I'll nose down on a .40 or 10mm and end up shooting low right every time untill I shoot a few mags and realize it's not even much worse than a 9mm. Weird how you can psych yourself out like that.

In certain states, some states have open carry w/o permit too (NC comes to mind)
Missouri was like that. I open carried my XDm 9mm everywhere. I loved it. And the only people that noticed where small children and the workers at the local China Buffet. Not sure if it's because kids are short or because they are so curious and always looking around

Highly recommend these holsters if you're looking for something a bit more than the every day kydex. Got my hands on one today and loved it, much better than a cross breed IMO and a fraction slimmer because there isn't leather. Plus you can't beat that cool design and a portion goes to a great cause.

I feel like the M&P is more grip friendly. We'll see soon. <img src="http://anabolicminds.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=112630"/>
maybe, some people hate a Glock grip and others swear by them. But the M&P 9 and 9c have more bulge in the back. The M&P Shield does not because it's a single stack and therefore has a narrower, smaller grip. The difference between the 19 and M&P 9/9c won't be huge but the difference between a 19/26 and a shield will be much different.
Keep us posted how you like each gun and how you shoot!

good to hear. Invaluable investment in my own opinion. Make sure to get something to secure your gun when you leave on trips. Made the mistake of leaving on a week long trip and my $1200 rifle I just got back from the gunsmith was stolen. Couldn't fit a safe in my apartment because the entrance way was so tiny but looking back I coulda come up with something. May as well have put over a grand through the paper shredder :,(

Ahhhh, that totally sucks. When I went to visit my ex, he had all his guns and rifles just laying around. I was thinking, "don't you care if they get stolen?!" Who the heck leaves their rifles in the corner, under the bed, and on top of the dresser?!

Yea that's just asking for it. Mine was at least hidden decently hid in a locked case and locked action with the clip and ammo elsewhere. But my apartment was obliterated and there is no hiding anything when tables and shelves and drawers are flipped and thrown and broke. What honestly really sucks is I arrived to my apartment and the guy dropped stuff and bolted but I had come from an out of state hunt so was very tiered and took a second to realize what had happens. I drew my firearm on him and he stopped dead in his tracks and I ordered him to sit his ass back on the porch while the police are on their way and he hesitated, and ran away. I'm not taking a life over material things nor is it legal. And in the state of Arkansas which I'm currently in I have a "duty to retreat" even if he attacked me. Police tracked him down and the girl who helped him, but never did do anything to them and all my things where gone. Work stuff, electronics, clothes, my one firearm I never intended on being in my apartment and I planned to relocate that week I got back to Arkansas and all my tools and many more things. Life's hard sometimes.

Saw some bears while surveying in a forest the past few days. Wasn't sketched out till I walked up on a bear with her cub at 8am, she was about 40ft away. Highly doubt I'd ever need my firearm out there in the forest or woods but I'm glad I had it that day. Thankfully she got to running away like black bears do 99.999999% of the time.

Beautiful area of Arkansas though. Nothing but huge dense hills and then it opens up and you can see pretty far. Tons of animals out there. We where about 20min from Russellville.

I've been looking at different small two shelve pistol safes for my apartment but I can't bolt them down to anything solid . So I made the decision to buy a Nanovault 300 series for my truck and I'll carry 24/7 or secure my weapon in my truck.

http://www.survivalsheath.com/holsters/index.htm Click on 'Chest Holster'. Tipped off to this by a FAM buddy of mine. You always have full control (unlike small of the back or even strong-side hip). Available even when seat belted in to your vehicle. Conceals under a T-Shirt, especially for 'In shape" people like members of this board. Get the 'Muzzle Up" version for concealed carry, obviously. If you have a single action, you may want to carry Condition 3, but that's up to you.

Open carry: Support the concept (like no helmet laws), but you better be have a good security holster and be well versed in weapon retention - some people aren't intimidated by the exposed carry of a weapon... or it might be "shoot me first", from behind.

Sunday I was asked by the leaders of my Church to take over as the head of the security team. We have a large congregation and reach out for the homeless and addicts to join us. So 600 people plus the random people that show up, I'm re-evaluating me holster choice and really want to make sure I'm fully prepared for my new role.
