Keep at it. You can say some pretty mean stuff to people as long as you follow it up by saying sorry I am trying to quit smoking and I am a little on edge. I used that for like a month lol!

Well, you aren't getting the carcinogens from the e cig, but you are still getting the nicotine, which is bad for your heart and blood vessels. And then that becomes it's own addiction. Most people that use e cigs take in entirely too much nicotine, more than when they smoked. Working in the healthcare field, you should know that they aren't that much better.

By the way, I still dip Copenhagen. I quit about 6 times, and I am working on it again.

    Good luck.

I had someone tell me that smoking was a sign of weakness. That was all it took. Once I had that perspective, I was pissed. Every time I craved, I would say "I am stronger than cigarettes." I wasn't going to be defeated. Best of luck bro. You can do anything filtered through the proper perspective.

For some it is the act of holding and puffing that they are addicted to.
For myself, It is the can in my pocket or hand, the dip in my mouth, the spitting. I don't really like the taste anymore, and it makes my breath stink. And I am risking losing half of my face (who knows, amiright?)
It's funny what some people do, myself included, knowing full well how bad it is for the body.

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant. I knew a guy that just carried a pack around with a cig in it that was taped up. Just held it in his hand sometimes.
    Definitely an oral fixation though.

This was the hardest part for me. The "habit" of relaxing with a chew and spitting. It's just what I was used to doing. That's why personally I had so much success with fake chew. Jake's Mint Chew was my favorite. I had to do the same thing to get past the nicotine part, then I just "cycled" off kind of like a supplement.

I bought some of that Bacc-off, an herbal/tobacco free/nicotine free dip.
It is pretty horrible. If it was slightly more palatable, I may have had more success with it.

Lots of horrible brands out there. I went through a lot of them looking for fake chew. Try Jake's Mint, it was the best of the bunch. I'd have to google to see some of the other brands I tried, been a while since I chewed now. Some absolutely awful stuff out there, don't get the cayenne containing products either because they just burn.

I really can't do the mint. I have tried all of the mint, wintergreen, spearmint or whatever. The minty taste makes me vomit, literally. Copenhagen long cut is my dip of choice. Honestly, if they stopped selling it, I would quit no problem. I can't stomach anything else.

Just wanted to say good luck. I used to smoke. Had my first when I was about 8 and became a regular smoker by the time I was 14 or so. I have been a year smoke free. I used the patch and it really worked well for me. Best decision of my life. Also if you do pick back up keep trying I didn't quit on my first attempt more like 3rd 4th or 5th. Never give up.

After 15yrs of smoking, on December 22nd I put them away for good. I'd like to say I just woke up that morning and said I'm done but it took a trip to the Emergency Room with near cardiac arrest and missing Christmas with my kids entirely due to sitting in a hospital room unable to keep high enough levels of oxygen in my blood with out support and constant supervision. I am 34yrs old and have 3 kids that I got to watch open their presents via cell phone video and it hurt like hell. Over the past couple years, I was told several times by my doctor that she would prescribe any drug I wanted to help me quit but until I truly wanted to quit it would never work. Here I sit two weeks with out even the desire and I'm going cold turkey. I'm not some huge anti-smoking person now however I can relay my doctor's message to everyone I know, a person will never be able to kick this habit until they truly want to. I wish all who try good luck and will support their efforts 100%

I think thats a good thing....you gave in a little to your temptation only to realize it was not as good as what your mind was telling you.

I'm still riding shotgun on the wagon no real desires at almost 3 wks, couple things that are weighing on my mind though 1) I've started having dreams about smoking which is BS that my brain is doing that to me when I'm sleeping 2) I was supposed to hangout with a girl I've been trying to set things up with for a long time and we were supposed to chill at a bar which I haven't been to or even drank since I quit. After thinking things over I broke things off for tonight and maybe we'll try again next week. Just hope she doesn't lose interest cause this is the third time, first time because of the smoking thing.

I've been quit for 3 years and I still dream about it occasionally. Last time I dreamed I smoked half a cigarette before I realised what I was doing and put it out. I have absolutely no intention of ever smoking again, in fact it's my intention to never touch tobacco again as long as I live. I know I'm an addict and if I smoke 1 cigarette I'll be hooked again. It's important, my dad is 69 and he has stage 4 cancer but he's still struggling with quitting. Had he quit 20 years ago it would be a different story today.

Planning for my quit soon. It is time for many reasons. I'm not ashamed to say I really enjoy it. But it's time.

Background Smoked since 13.. Age 20
    Quit 2x for a week.

Basically I'm gonna decrease the anount I smoke for 2 weeks and then go for it. I need something to replace that time driving and such. I've tried toothpicks and gum. Any other suggestions?

Maybe an electronic cig if you can only use it when you're about to cave. Maybe a picture of some smokers lungs taped to your dash. You just have to remember which one is stronger.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've used the e cig before. It wasn't bad. It's just that it didn't really help breaking that smoking feeling if you know what I mean. That's probably my biggest struggle. It was real easy to just go back to cigs after the e cig

I'm using the vapur cig , but like u said it's still easy to go back to the real thing
So I bought the strongest , nastiest brand( still $13/pack where I'm from, lol..) if I light up , it's only a couple of puffs n I'm done...
Still not 100% smoke free, but I'm way better than before...
