I think they are along the lines of "active recovery". Even some full body cardio-ish work is probably gonna work as well.
You use some extra w/o's with lighter reps on a lift(s) the next or a few days later that you hammered a day or so before.
Will they make all the difference? IMO no, but they have a catchy name.
Are they an adjunct to some already well tuned training, if you need a slight bump? Maybe

I think they are pointless and that is based on nothing but pure opinion.

As I mentioned, it is purely opinion and that is based on the fact that I have yet to see anything proving they do anything. It used to be thought that it might help recovery and that has been shown to not be true. So the other thought is that it keeps blood engorged to help with growth. Again, I have never found anything other than bro science that supports this.

Am I saying don't go do it? No. Just my opinion that the benefit is not what people believe. More often than not it is the guys that just love arm days and want to keep that pump all the time that seem to sell it.
