lifting belt question?
Would using a belt more often help with keeping a small waist. Small waist in bodybuilding is a must. So im wondering if would help and start at 18 years old and continue it through many more years of training. Reason i ask this is because in a video on phil heath he said is coach changes exercises so it would help him maintain a smaller waist. so i thought that using a belt would help with most of the support that the mid section would do. inturn keeping waist from getting bulky. Tell me what you guys think or if im just an idiot haha

Honestly it's personal preference. You will find that there are tons of people on both sides of this argument. Some believe that the belt increases the midsection due to the pressure on the abdominals which are pushing against the force of the belt. Others believe it removes some strain the abdominals would be doing by using the belt as support.
My suggestion is use a belt when it is functioning for what it was made, safety. There is no need to use the belt for light weight squats unless you have some major back problems, in which case you probably should get that taken care of and probably shouldn't be squatting at all.

I use a belt when squatting heavy and dead lifting I swear with me personally with form the belt lets me know when my back isn't straight as far as helping with abs I'm clueless but o know I can squat and lift more with knee wraps compared to without em it's like having springs on under ur knees

I'm with rodja. In addition, I'm not a fan of belts, overall. I suppose for heavy singles or doubles It's ok but I'd still side against them. If you cannot create the intraabdominal pressure necessary for the lift then the core is your limiting factor. Train it. I also train and work more on the performance/ athletics side of things so my perspective will be different than some others

Agreed 100% with Rodja.
Also, if you want to improve your ability to pull your waist in then you might want to consider various forms of bridges (aka planks). You'll get some good transverse abdominus work, which is one of the major muscles that compresses the abdomen.

It would have to be the first time I've ever heard of anyone saying a lifting belt would help you keep a smaller waist. Are you taking the chinese geisha foot-wrap route and just cracking ribs and hip bones? Seriously, wtf? That being said...wearing a lifting belt for heavy sets of 5's, 3's and obviously 1RM attempts is, in my opinion, beneficial neurologically and aides in musculo-skeletal development.
