Activate & Women

I posted in another thread (Women's Libido and Oral Contraceptives) that oral contraceptives are having a negative impact on women's SHBG levels and thus androgen levels to the point that it's impacting their sexual function.

I was curious if someone could elaborate more why designer recommends against Activate Extreme for women. I found a reference on drugs.com that cited impact on the menstrual cycle - which is what is mentioned on the label of Activate Extreme.

Any specific studies that I could read more about it. I personally think that if the side effects are minimal or only impact a small percentage of the group that I could be worth experimenting on with girlfriends who are taking birth control.

Thoughts?

Hopefully Matt sees this. I really cannot comment on it though. Don't forget that Act-X has more than just SHBG modulating ingredients.

Thanks man. The label specifically says...

Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use any nettle product (nettle can alter the menstrual cycle).Use this product responsibly; always consult a physician before using this or any other dietary supplement.
...which is why I specifically was asking about the Nettle. I don't see any of the other ingredients posing an issue to a woman though.

Let me look for the study. Women can use it and have used it before but IIRC can stop the cycle in some users. Ill dig it up.

Joe I cant find it in my notes. All I seem to come up with is that pregnant women should not use it. There are no interaction reports from the studies that I can find. If she uses she should start at 2 caps am followed by 1 cap pm for the first 7 days to see how she tolerates it. If there are no issues then she could go up to 2 caps twice a day.

Thanks for looking into that for me. Designer Supps is a top notch company exactly for reasons like this. Keep it up.

So it's thought that it wouldn't affect the efficacy of oral contraceptives?

This could be interesting if Activate could promote the positive effects of reduced SHBG on body composition and sexual function in women while not reducing the efficacy of BC.

My GF has difficulty losing weight and has compromised sexual desire/function and I am 100% convinced it is because of her BC; however, she (and I) aren't really willing for her to drop the pill.

I haven't quite got that far. The literature so far suggested that it could possibly effect menstruation cycles. I was asking Matt about what research he had that suggested that. From what I have found it can effect the cycle in some women, but I'm not really sure to what extent.

I'm also not sure what effect if any it will have while taking birth control and if it will lower the efficacy of the oral contraceptives. More research needs to be done. Matt did suggest that women have taken it successfully though.

I dont remember seeing anything in ref to BC it had to do with the cycle. Or missing the cycle. Either way if she was using BC and wanted to use ACTX, I would stop using the BC.
