      The Item: Legends Update

The Scoop: Just Announced: Actor and legendary Mr. Olympia Sergio Oliva passed away. (July 4, 1941 - November 12, 2012)

The "So What?": Born in Cuba, Sergio Oliva was chosen to represent his country at the 1962 Central American Games and took 2nd place at the 1962 National Weightlifting Championship. Political asylum brought Oliva to the U.S. He won the 1963 Mr. Chicago, his first bodybuilding competition. Nicknamed "The Myth" for his "unbelievable" physique, IFBB Pro Sergio Oliva went on to win many titles, including three consecutive Mr. Olympia titles (the only bodybuilder to beat IFBB Pro Arnold Schwarzenegger in an Olympia contest). Oliva acted in few movies, and he was a retired 25-year-veteran Chicago police officer.

      Contest History:

      1966 IFBB Mr. Universe (1st)
      1966 IFBB Mr. Olympia (4th)

1981 WABBA Pro World Cup (1st)
      1984 IFBB Mr. Olympia (8th)
      1984 WABBA Pro States Championships
      1985 IFBB Mr. Olympia (8th)

Andrew Oye's Verdict: Last year, "Andrew Oye's Pro-Muscle Report" reported the passing of Oliva's peer, IFBB Pro Serge Nubret. While IFBB Pro League legends leave the world, their legacies live on. In Oliva's case, it's partly through his son, Sergio Oliva, Jr., who is also a competitive bodybuilder.

Oliva succeeded 2-time Mr. Olympia IFBB Pro Larry Scott (the title's first champ) who posted: "I will always have a special place deep in my heart for the friendship and stories that Sergio and I shared over the many years... R.I.P. my dear friend."

How long you lookin' to make it?! Nobody ever credited juice for lengthening their life, so I'd say 71 with a Mr. O amount of usage is a pretty impressive run.

I lived in Chicago in the sixties, and met him at a supplement shop on the West Side. He was incredibly impressive and a really nice guy. He invited me to watch him train at the Lawson YMCA. Awesome. And you can take low dosage test forever, if you watch you blood work and pressure.
