• New Warnings On HCG Drops

    By Mike Simone Men's Fitness

It seems like every day there's a new product on the market claiming to help you lose weight, keep it off and magically transform you into a supermodel. Individuals desperately seeking to drop the pounds are inundated with deceptive marketing tactics on bogus .com sites, from Google search queries, spam tweets and unsolicited Facebook shares.

According to an ABC Nightline report, manufactures are producing illegal products containing HCG as droplets for oral consumption to aid weight loss. HCG, or human chorionic gonadotrpin, is a fertility hormone that is only FDA-approved as a prescription injection to treat infertility in women and hormonal imbalances in males, not weight loss. In efforts to curb the deception and fraud, the FDA and FTC issued multiple warnings to manufacturers marketing the weight loss products that are said to contain the hormone.

Regardless of the homeopathic labeling of HCG products, it's still not a legitimate treatment for weight loss and any success stories of the diet cannot be credited to HCG supplementation. In the ABC News interview with Elizabeth Miller, the acting director of the Division of Non Prescription Products and Health Fraud at the FDA, said, "There are no studies that show taking any products containing HCG as a part of a low calorie diet has additional weight loss benefits." Miller continues, "Whether they contain it or not, they are illegal and unapproved drugs."

Several companies that were issued the letters from the FDA and FTC have 15 days to correct their violations or face legal action.

It's frustrating to continuously observe manufacturers leverage a sensitive subject such as body image and weight management to persuade consumers to buy. Let's think about, a low calorie diet combined with a magical substance. How about we all recognize that calories in vs. calories out is what really produces the weight loss?

Save yourself the money and invest in a healthy, active lifestyle and diet.
