Diet Vs Exercise For Fat Loss

Many people think that just simply exercising will help you lose some pounds and keep you fit, but celebrity trainer and CrossFit advocate Bob Harper, of the weight-loss show The Biggest Loser, recently told Reuters that he has a difference of opinion.
Bob Harper’s career has consisted of helping very obese individuals lose weight through his exhausting fitness routines, but throughout his long-term experience, he has found that dieting undermines exercise every single time.
The idea of just running off all you ate that day sounds pretty legitimate and realistic if you stay at the gym long enough, but doing so does not result in efficient weight loss. A combination of a healthy diet and exercise routines is how Harper works. He’s also a big fan of CrossFit’s training philosophy, which is based around ever-changing challenges that can be scaled to suit people of all fitness levels.
But not everyone’s completely onboard the CrossFit train.
Exercise physiologist at the American Council on Exercise, Dr. Mark Kelly, also told Reuters that he believes that even though diet is the main factor that can help lower weight, exercise allows the weight that is lost to stay off. He believes CrossFit is a great program but can be risky without supervision. Kelly states that the foundation of CrossFit needs to be laid out first especially since you’re asking these larger individuals to move at a fast rate through a large range of motions.
In addition, Dr. Kelly commented on a research study conducted by the National Weight Control Registry, which consisted of individuals 18 years or older who have lost at least 30 pounds and have kept it off for at least a year. Ninety percent of these individuals in the study exercised on a regular basis. Dr. Kelly stated in the article that these individuals are the biggest losers across the nation and that the main activity they took part in was exercising on a regular basis—many simply through walking.
Both exercising and maintaining a healthy diet is key to losing weight and keeping it off. They are directly related and complement each other. Just remember: You can’t have a balloon without the helium.
