• Ankle Injuries From Energy Drinks

by Charles Poliquin Iron Man Magazine

Q: What’s this I hear about you saying that energy drinks can make law enforcement officers more susceptible to ankle injuries?

A: It’s possible, and not just with the boys in blue. One of the common ingredients in those drinks has been associated with a deficiency in manganese, which is a mineral involved in the production and health of ligament tissue.
Anyone who gulps down multiple energy drinks containing that additive risks compromising the integrity of the ankle joint upon impact. Better to stick with coffee or tea.

Editor’s note: Charles Poliquin is recognized as one of the world’s most suc-cessful strength coaches, having coached Olympic med-alists in 12 different sports, including the U.S. women’s track-and-field team for the 2000 Olympics. He’s spent years researching European journals (he’s fluent in English, French and German) and speaking with other coaches and scientists in his quest to optimize training methods. And this would potentially affect all joints, right?
