Lets talk Death Metal! Post your favorite songs/bands, discuss the brutality!

Cannibal Corpse
Dying Fetus
Behemoth
Amon Amarth

And plenty others. I've tried getting into Deicide, but Glen Benton just seems like a huge moron. When every song is kill jesus/hail satan, I cant take them seriously. It just seems laughable. The same reason why I could never get into black metal.

While it's not super-hard, I love the beat and the lyrics of, "In pursuit of Vikings," by Amon Amarth.

Listening to Death metal is something I just got into November 2012 so I have a lot of catching up. Lately I've been enamored with Meshuggah and Hatebreed.

Theres so much stuff out there its crazy. In the past I had just dabbled with death metal here and there for workout tunes, and playing guitar. Recently Ive really been taking the time and listening to albums all the way through. Now normally I pick an album to play for my workout and it usually lasts all the way. Starting with the Old School stuff and working my way through different bands.

Old School Death Metal:
Death
Morbid Angel
Obituary
Cannibal Corpse (with old singer Chris Barnes, who now is the singer for Six Feet Under)
Deicide (Only the First two albums)
Suffocation

Newer bands:
Nile
Behemoth
Amon Amarth
Aborted
Children of Bodom (more melodic thrash death metal, but awesome stuff)
Dying Fetus

**** there is so many more bands, plus Thrash Bands like Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Metallica, then Grindcore stuff like Napalm Death, Terrorizer, Carcass. Metal is an endless world of discovery from old school al the way to now.

I used to love Dimmu Borgir, but the constant satanic theme got tiresome. The music was incredible though if you like the melodic death metal thing.

Slightly more mainstream, but I'm liking Devildriver lately.

I'm sure exactly no one will agree, but I prefer Coal Chamber to DevilDriver.

As for me, the only death metal to which I listen is:

Infant Annihilator
Interrupting Cow
Signal the Firing Squad
Rings of Saturn

I suppose that **** might be considered technical deathcore, but I can't tolerate nonstop blast beats. I was a fan of Internal Bleeding and Dyin Fetus in the late 90s and early 2000s, and prior to that rocked a bit of Carcass, Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel.

DevilDriver is fantastic! I have a soft spot in my heart for Nu-Metal, since it was what got me into music during the late 90s/Early 00s, Korn, Deftons, Slipknot, and yes Coal Chamber

Meshuggah is about the only extreme metal band i listen too.

Cut my teeth on Cannibal Corpse, Death, and morbid angel

I agree on the Blast beat stuff... But if I am in a extreme purple headed drummer mood its Nile. Karl Sanders is from the next county over.

The new Djent crap sometimes has some cool bands in it.

Revocation.
They're more thrash than death metal. But deathcore usually wins for me.

Black Dahlia Murder
Through the eyes of the dead
Job for a Cowboy
Despised Icon
Veil of Maya

Noisem is a bunch of teenage kids out of Baltimore who put out "Agony Defined," a face melting debut that instantly had them compared to Death, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse. Buy their album NOW through a389 records. Get in on the ground floor!

I've bought more vinyl in the past two years ON TOP OF the CDs I've bought for bands I love. Most bands include an mp3 download code with the vinyl if you buy it that way also. I missed my chance to buy the surgical kit version of the new Carcass album and I missed out on the black Eucharist/rosary package with Behemoth's "The Satanist." I do have the deluxe vinyl/book/black mass edition of Watain's "The Wild Hunt" though! Metal might be the only genre that has cool editions and fan packages of new releases.

Krisiun is a Brazilian death metal band that rules supreme, even though they're not widely known. Rebaelliun was a close second.

Speaking of Brazil, do you dig Sepultura?
Post-Chaos? Not as much. Some fleeting moments of brilliance, but anything pre-Roots is awesome. Love their new drummer though. Kid's a monster.

I see no mention of Screamin Jay Hawkins, who is credited, rightly, with the invention of the death growl.
Lmao at this^

Death metal and all the aformentioned genres are awesome.

But no mention of doom/stoner metal? **** is hectic.

To name a few..?
Electric Wizard? (Heavy as ****)
Sleep
High on Fire
Acid King

Turning this up house-shakingly loud is pre sick-
Electric Wizard-Wizard In Black - YouTube

Edit:
Also Acid Bath and Crowbar, kinda slightly different genre.
I used to love Acid Bath in High School, hahaha.

I love Acid Bath - Scream of the Butterfly -- awesome! I wonder if I should teach that tomorrow in my poetry class

High on Fire rules too; Snakes for the Divine was a crushing album

OK, what is the album that started it all for you? The very first time you tried listening to something different and became hooked for life.

Metallica. And justice for all
Slayer. Seasons in the abyss.

I was hooked.

They died about 45 minutes after wrapping studio time on Black.
