No, he's a character. He's one of Eddie Bravo's students and good friends with Joe Rogan and they goof all the time. Let me see if I can find a video where Laranje and Eddie punk Eddie's BJJ class. It's awesome.

Jason Miller: “I want to fight as soon as possible.”

The sting of defeat to Michael Bisping still haunts Jason “Mayhem” Miller, as the colorful middleweight has yet to find out if he will receive another opportunity in the UFC. Miller has been working on improving his MMA skills since a December TKO loss to Bisping following coaching stints by both men on TUF 14 and is itching to put them into action. For Miller, who made a name for himself with his outlandish entrances and as host of MTV’s Bully Beatdown, waiting has been very difficult for him.

“You guys Tweet Dana that you want to see me fight,” said Miller, while recently serving as a guest on The MMA Hour. “I want to fight as soon as possible. So, the more pressure from anybody who wants to see me fight, the more pressure they put on the brass, well, guess what? I’ll fight sooner.”

Of his next fight, Miller went on to say, “I’ve gotten a head nod, but nothing official,” in regards to if the UFC will give him a chance to redeem himself inside the Octagon. A return to Strikeforce could also be an option for Miller, as he competed there before taking the position as TUF coach.

Roger Gracie weighing move to 185 pounds

Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold has been very vocal about his desire to see the organization bring in some new contenders for him to face. However, it appears the promotion may already have a new option for Rockhold on their roster with the ability to fight at 185 pounds and give any opponent a run for his money.

According to his team, decorated submission specialist Roger Gracie is contemplating a move down from light heavyweight now that he’s fully focused on a career in MMA rather than on the mat.

Word of Gracie’s pending decision came from a conversation between manager Jorge Guimaraes and TATAME where the representative said, “He’s considering dropping, but it’s not set in stone yet.”

“To me, he has all the tools to build up a great MMA career, he just needs some work, (and to be) focused,” Guimaraes continued. Guimaraes also revealed Gracie could be joining Anderson Silva’s Team Blackhouse in the coming months as well.

Gracie is 4-1 in MMA including wins over veterans like Trevor Prangley and Kevin Randleman. His first loss came in September when he was stopped with strikes by former title-holder Muhammed Lawal. He is also one of the most accomplished BJJers in recent history, winning numerous titles including one in the coveted ADCC Absolute bracket.

Bellator 64, Askren vs. Lima, take place April 6 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Bellator Fighting Championships' first season-six event in Canada takes place on April 6 as The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor hosts Bellator 64.

Bellator officials today revealed the booking. Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren (9-0 MMA, 6-0 BFC) faces season-five tournament winner Douglas Lima (21-4 MMA, 3-0 BFC) in the evening's main event.

"The support we have received in Canada has been nothing short of spectacular, so when we had the chance to bring Bellator to Windsor, it was an easy decision," Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney stated. "Ben Askren vs. Douglas Lima will showcase two of the best and brightest stars in the world at 170 pounds. The fans watching inside Caesars and the viewers catching the fights on MTV2 are in for a great night."

In addition to the night's main event, Bellator 64 also hosts the semifinals of the promotion's season-six featherweight tournament. The opening round of that bracket kicks off March 9 at Bellator 60.

As with all of Bellator's season-six events, Bellator 64 airs on MTV2 (and in high-definition on EPIX). The night's preliminary card streams on Spike.com, though no fights have been announced.

Askren seeks a second defense of the belt he won in April 2011. The undefeated 27-year-old has rattled-off nine-straight wins to open his professional career, including a narrow split-decision win over Jay Hieron this past October.

"After my fight with Jay, I went back to work the following Monday to continue my training," Askren said. "I made no secret I wasn't happy with my performance in that fight, and now having spent over six months training at Roufusport, I'm really confident in my striking.

"Douglas is a great fighter, but I don't think he'll be able to handle what I bring to the table."

Meanwhile, Lima earned a crack the belt buy besting Ben Saunders, Chris Lozano and Steve Carl in Bellator's season-five tournament. He's now won nine-straight fights, overall.

"There is no question Ben is a great fighter, and I've been focusing a lot of time on my wrestling," Lima stated. "This is the biggest fight of my career, and I'm preparing for it. It's all I think about. Every day from the time I wake up, until the time my head hits the pillow, I'm thinking about April 6 and winning the title."

Four-time WEC veteran Chris Horodecki (18-3-1 MMA, 1-0-1 BFC) will also appear on the card against a yet-to-be-named opponent.

Diego Sanchez would be willing to fight teammate Carlos Condit

While both men may have their hands full in the coming months, UFC welterweights Diego Sanchez and Carlos Condit could eventually cross paths down the road depending on how 2012 plays out. Though the two are teammates at Greg Jackson’s gym in New Mexico, Sanchez recently made it clear there is no controversy to be had when it comes to the possibility of the training partners facing off inside the Octagon with a title on the line.

Straying from the attitude causing a rift between Jon Jones-Rashad Evans, as well as the one seeing Evans refuse to face Keith Jardine a few years back, Sanchez spoke to The MMA Hour earlier this week where he said he’s already discussed such a scenario with “The Natural Born Killer”.

“We’ve all talked about this, the coaches, me and Carlos, we are absolutely fine fighting each other,” said the original Ultimate Fighter. “We both want UFC gold, that’s what we want for our family and have always wanted even as little kids, we have always wanted this. We are willing to do that.”

He also made it clear he wouldn’t pull any punches against Condit and would expect the same treatment in return, stating, “Me and Carlos would be a war; we both know our strengths and weaknesses and it would be a great fight. If it happens, it happens.”

Up next for “The Dream” is a February 15 date with top contender Jake Ellenberger in headlining action at UFC on Fuel 1. Comparably, Condit has been embroiled in the fallout from his hard-fought, albeit awfully close decision win over Nick Diaz this past Saturday night.

Update on Nick Diaz vs Carlos Condit

Apparently, Dana was ready to make the fight and Carlos had accepted the rematch and was supposedly on his way to go over contracts, when the Diaz camped declined the rematch. Cesar Gracie had been doing all the speaking for Nick and it sounds like Nick is taking a lay off seriously, though probably not a permanent retirement. THAT, or Nick is holding off for a potential GSP match, as GSP has made recent statements that he'd relinquish his belt just to fight Nick.

Georges St. Pierre willing to give up championship to fight Nick Diaz

Yes, you read the headline correctly.

While UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre has not come out to officially say he’d be willing to relinquish his rights to the title in order to fight polarizing ***** Nick Diaz, it appears he has mentioned he’s open to doing so in private company.

The shocking revelation came Tuesday evening as part of UFC Tonight where host Kenny Florian, who is friends with GSP and trains with him at TriStar, said the currently injured St. Pierre brought it up over dinner after watching Carlos Condit outpoint Diaz last weekend at UFC 143.

Condit earned a shot at St. Pierre with the victory though it may be in vain if “Rush” follows through on his comments by giving up his belt to settle the score with Diaz. During the build up to the Diaz-Condit bout GSP expressed his desire to see Diaz win after the Stockton scrapper called him out after beating B.J. Penn in his previous Octagon appearance.

Cesar Gracie says rematch between Diaz-Condit is no longer taking place

The roller-coaster ride of the proposed rematch between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz continues as now word has surfaced saying it is no longer a go, at least according to Diaz’s head trainer Cesar Gracie.

    UFC
President Dana White recently reported an immediate rematch between Diaz and current UFC interim welterweight champion Condit would be scheduled to take place before Georges St. Pierre returned from injury. Just as quickly as the rematch was reported, rumors started that someone from either Diaz or Condit had decided against the bout.

According to a report by MMAJunkie it may have been Gracie himself who nixed things though he did not offer much more than to say the match would not go down, leaving those around the MMA world to sit and wonder.

Gracie’s comments are just the latest in a string of twists and turns surrounding the scrap. Condit is still expected to be in Las Vegas on Friday to meet with White. Until then fans will continue to have to wait and see what happens next if anything at all.

2012 World MMA Flyweight Scouting Report: #6 - Hector Sandoval

It wouldn't be a flyweight countdown without the presence of one of the MMA's most successful training camps in the lighter weight classes being represented. Team Alpha Male has produced a steady stream of high-quality talent, fighters such as Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez, and Chad Mendes, and the camp has hot prospects on deck in Lance Palmer and T.J. Dillashaw at both 135 and 145 lbs.

At flyweight, Team Alpha Male isn't without reserves. Ukiah, California's Hector Sandoval (4-1) is one of their most promising representatives, recording four wins in the last two years in the California mixed martial arts scene. His most notable win to date came in December against Taylor McCorriston (6-2) at Impact MMA: Recognition, who had only previously lost to Hector's teammate T.J. Dillashaw.

Hector's style is what you would typically associate with any Team Alpha Male fighter, a power wrestler with explosive takedowns, competent grappling chops, and a furious stand-up game. He doesn't possess overly technical striking prowess, and his size is problematic in pushing his effectiveness to the next level in that arena. He more than makes for that with the threat of a powerful slam or blanketing top control.

Defensively, he needs to protect his chin better. He already has a tough time getting inside on his opponents due to his short reach in comparison to longer opponents, and that may all change when he's fighting flyweight competition consistently. But there is some concern that his scrambling style of striking could be exploited due to the holes it opens up to his chin.

At only 25 years old, Sandoval has a bright future, and he'll undoubtedly find his way into the UFC on the sails of his teammates' success. He has all the tools to find continued success at the regional level right now, and in time - he'll likely improve to a point in which success will find him in the depths of the UFC's new flyweight division. Look for him to make his debut inside the Octagon in late 2012.

Since the birth of the UFC's flyweight division creates a question of who we should consider as prospects, we've tweaked the criteria specifically for this weight class. Most notably, we drew a line, excluding the following well-known, established flyweights: Jussier ‘Formiga' da Silva, Ulysses Gomez, Ian McCall, Yasuhiro Uru****ani, BJ Kojima, Rambaa Somdet, Mamoru Yamaguchi, Dustin Ortiz, Darrell Montague, Danny Martinez, and any flyweights outside of our original criteria.

Donald Cerrone will attempt to lasso Yves Edwards at UFC on Fuel 3

A lightweight battle between Donald Cerrone and Yves Edwards has been added to UFC on Fuel 3 according to a report during this week’s episode of UFC Tonight. Both men are known for their well-rounded styles and willingness to strike meaning fans should definitely be in for a treat when the two cross paths in May at the event.

Cerrone (17-4) will be attempting to get back on track after Nate Diaz halted his six-fight win streak, and ended his chances at a title-shot, in December at UFC 141. Among the numerous apt adversaries in Cerrone’s win column are Dennis Siver and Charles Oliveira.

With sixty fights under his belt, Edwards is one of the most experienced fighters in the UFC. The 35-year old holds a 4-2 mark in his last six Octagon fights but is coming off a loss to Tony Ferguson.

Other match-ups set for the still-developing card include Tom Lawlor vs. Jason MacDonald and Thiago Silva vs. Igor Pokrajac.

UFC looking to land in Aloha State later this year

In the past UFC President Dana White had expressed his desire to see the UFC make an appearance in Hawaii with former champion (and popular islander) B.J. Penn taking a headlining spot on the card. However, even despite Penn’s continued retirement, it appears White is still planning on taking his fight promotion to Hawaii in the near future.

The UFC card would take place inside Aloha Stadium, a venue seating 50,000 people when completely filled.
“We’re still working on that, but we want to do it,” said White, in a recent interview with MMAWeekly. “We’re coming regardless (of the Penn situation). But that was the fight I really wanted to do there.”

While nothing is set, it is possible Penn could decide to come back to MMA once an event is confirmed for Hawaii. Penn decided to hang up his gloves after falling to Nick Diaz at UFC 137 but has since come out to say he might be willing to return once his batteries are recharged if the situation is right.

There's a rumor floating around that Nick failed his post-fight UA. Cesar has also been surprisingly quiet during these past few days when a rematch has been offered to Nick.

To me, it would be a bummer to see a rematch between the two. I'd like to see a Condit/Ellenberger rematch and to see it go to 5 rounds. I had Ellenberger winning the first fight by the thinnest of margins. Outside of Ellenberger and Hendricks, the list of contenders is very short and you have to wonder at which point does GSP walk away or move up to MW.

Rumour – Nick Diaz Fails UFC 143 Drug Test For Marijuana

A rematch was in the works between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit since their UFC 143 fight decision was one of the hottest topics amongst MMA and sports fans. But with Diaz possibly failing his second test for Marijuana since 2007, he might not be able to compete for 6-12
    months.

Apparently Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz accepted the rematch, but the NSAC advised the UFC and the manager for Diaz, Cesar Gracie of their findings. It’s expected that the UFC will announce something on Friday in regards how it will move forward.

We will be watching very closely until we can provide more news about this subject.

I don't think they'll rematch anytime soon. After GSP beats Condit and depending on whether Nick is still fighting or not, who else does GSP have to fight?

Looking forward, who do you have between Frankie and Ben Henderson?

**Running updates** Keith Kizer says somebody failed a drugtest at UFC 143

According to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer, an unnamed fighter that competed on Saturday night’s UFC 133 card in Las Vegas had a drug test came back positive for an unspecified substance.

Here’s Kizer’s quote from an email we received today:

“Thank you for the many email and phone calls. I am still waiting for all the steroid and drug test results to come back. We did have at least one positive test. I will send out an email later today on that matter.”

Although it’s a vague statement that doesn’t confirm if the test was a pre or post-fight and the guilty party could be anyone who fought at the event, the Internet has been abuzz with rumors that it’s Nick Diaz and that the card-carrying marijuana prescribed curmudgeon is believed to have pot in his system.

In other news, the sky is blue, water is wet and Chael Sonnen is a Republican.

We’ll reserve judgment until we get the press release from NSAC this afternoon before we begin pointing fingers, but it could be Matt Riddle or Ed Herman. Riddle seemed less all over the place in his post-fight interview and may have been under the influence of Ritalin and Herman had to be on some kind of goofballs to say that he wants to fight Anderson Silva next.

This is really fcked up all joking aside. His first fight back (Diaz) and he gets busted for the same thing he got released for (unless I'm mistaken).

You're not mistaken. I'm not sure it was a direct result of the failed drug test only, but I think that was the last straw that broke the Zuffa camels back. He'd also missed press conferences and interviews and other odd stuff he's still not completely gotten over.

He just fukd up the whole momentum of things. Its back to Condit. Either strikeforce didn't test for pot or he didn't take this move to UFC that seriously. This really bums me out.

edit: GSP could fight Hendricks. Hendricks don't f this up!

Apparently, what he was doing in SF was he'd stop smoking 3 or 6 weeks before the fight to give his system time to get rid of the THC traces. Maybe his equation just didn't work out this time around.

But, to be fair, we're not 1000% certain it was Nick who failed any tests. The probability is pretty high (no pun intended), imo, but the fat lady hasn't yet sung on this issue.

    Muay Boran fight with knockout

A little preface. This is two Muay Boran fighters where one dominates the other fighter to the point where the dominated fighter just quites. This enrages the crowd and some civilian decides to step in the ring and fight, the the rest you can see.

Nick Diaz Tests Positive Following UFC 143

Nick Diaz‘s rematch with Carlos Condit has gone up in smoke. Literally. The former Strikeforce welterweight champion has tested positive for marijuana following his UFC 143 loss to Carlos Condit, and will be subject to a suspension and fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the news on Thursday.

“All (UFC 143 drug test) results received thus far have been negative, except Mr. Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites. A complaint for disciplinary action against Mr. Diaz has been filed,” Kizer informed MMAWeekly.com.

The following UFC 143 athletes were tested: Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Fabricio Werdum, Josh Koscheck, Renan Barao, Ed Herman, Dustin Poirier, Max Hollaway, Matt Riddle, Henry Martinez, Edwin Figueroa, Alex Caceres, Matt Brown, Chris Cope, Rafael Natal, Michael Kuiper, Stephen Thompson and Dan Stittgen.

The disappointment surrounding the Diaz positive drug test undoubtedly will send waves throughout the UFC’s welterweight division, particularly in regards to a potential rematch with Condit that was in the works.

This is also not the first time Diaz has brushed against commission rules for his use of marijuana.

In 2007 following a fight with Takanori Gomi in Pride, again while fighting in Nevada. He was suspended six months and fined 20 percent of his paycheck that night. The fight was overturned to a no contest and Diaz served out his suspension.

Diaz was also removed from a Strikeforce fight card in 2009 after failing to submit to drug testing required for pre-fight medicals by the California State Athletic Commission, and he was subsequently dropped from the show.

In his home state of California, Diaz is licensed for medicinal marijuana use, but it does not excuse him from testing by state athletic commissions when it comes to MMA.

This unfortunate turn of events will scrap any potential bout with Condit or UFC welterweight champion in the near future as Diaz serves out a suspension that will be handed down from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit is expected to meet with UFC president Dana White on Friday to discuss his next bout. At this time however the only thing for sure is it won’t be against Nick Diaz.

AAAANNNNND it's official. It would have sucked worse had Nick won the fight, then pulled from the GSP fight for this.

Lorenzo: Diaz Won't Be Cut; Jds Vs Overeem May 26

Nick Diaz will not be cut for failing his UFC 143 drug test, says Lorenzo Fertitta.

Diaz tested positive for marijuana at the weekend’s fights and, bar a successful appeal, will be suspended for up to a year. The failed test has cancelled a Carlos Condit rematch and postponed any possible showdown with Georges St. Pierre.

Fertitta said the UFC would stand by Diaz during an impromptu Q&A session on Twitter today.

“[i] really like the kid [he] just needs to get it together. I'm a sap for real fighters,” he posted in reply to one enquirer who wanted to know whether Diaz had ‘pushed it too far’ with his latest misdemeanour.

Diaz will find out what sanction he faces in April when the Nevada State Athletic Commission convenes its next general meeting.

Other items of note from today’s Twitter marathon:

    - Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem are to contest the heavyweight title in Las Vegas on May 26th

    - Lorenzo is not impressed with Jason Miller. When a fan asked him to “please bring Mayhem Miller back” he replied, “he looked terrible against Bisping.”

That Michael fella looks pretty good. I'd like to see him fight again for sure. Nice kick (though the guy seemed to wait a long time for it without moving)

I have zero interest in Tito/Griff 3. If it headlines they are in for some sad numbers. If Dana was smart about this he'd get Chuck back in teh gym for one more fight for Tito. I'd pay for that one.

I have Cain all day long unless somehow Mir gets it to the ground. Mir will be taking a nap in this one.

    Bisping leaves Wolfslair

Top-ranked middleweight Michael Bisping is no longer a member of Wolfslair MMA Academy.

A source close to the camp today confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com but declined to go into specifics about the change.

Bisping (22-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) most recently took on Chael Sonnen at UFC on FOX 2 and suffered a unanimous decision loss, which scratched a middleweight title shot against champ Anderson Silva.

Bisping's work with the U.K.-based MMA team extended through much of his success in the UFC. In 2006, he won "The Ultimate Fighter 3" and subsequently went on a three-fight win streak before a split decision loss to Rashad Evans briefly halted his momentum.

During his work with the camp, Bisping worked with high-profile additions to the team such as Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Cheick Kongo. Wolfslair trainers Dave Jackson and Mario Neto were also featured when Bisping took a coaching job on "The Ultimate Fighter 9."

Recently, Bisping relocated to Huntington Beach, Calif., and trained with UFC vet Tiki Ghosn and standout wrestler Brady Fink.

In 2005, Bisping was stripped of his light-heavyweight title in the now-defunct Cage Rage promotion due to "management issues," according to a statement released on the British promotion Cage Warriors Fighting Championships website. Bisping won and defended the Cage Warriors Fighting Championships three times before his move to the UFC.

Attempts to reach Bisping were unsuccessful.

There's a lot of video on YouTube of Michael Page in kick boxing matches and he's just as flamboyent with the dancing and spinning kicks. He's fun to watch, but it's all fun & games until you come across a nasty wrestler.

I have no interest in Griff/Tito either. It's a pointless fight that has zero impact on the division, so it's basically a "superfight," except it's lacking anything super. Fun superfights to watch that have nothing to do with the division would be GSP/Andy, JBJ/Andy or or as you mentioned, Chuck/Tito, something really intrigueing and/or the fans would eat up, not a fighter nobody is asking for, short of the two fighters themselves.

Cain is going to eat Frank Mir, but I'm rooting for Frank on the DL.

I was actually full board on Team Tito back then, so the Chuck vs Tito years were dark times for me.
