Suboptimal androgen and estrogen levels can lead to weak physical constitution and poor athletic performance. MAX-BULK is a naturally occurring androgen supplement that can raise the body’s androgens past the threshold required for increased lean body mass, reduced fat mass, and increased physical power. This can accelerate a physical transformation faster than modification of diet and exercise alone.
Indicators: Low/normal estrogen levels; low androgen levels.

Androgens - Background: Androgens are a group of steroid hormones (figure 1), that exert androgenic and anabolic effects. (1) Androgens act upon a variety of non-genomic membrane receptors that can exert an immediate short-term action (e.g. within hours). (106,107) In addition, androgens may exert a genomic effect which involves binding of the androgen to the intracellular androgen receptor (AR) and regulating the transcription of DNA for a slowly generated long-term action (e.g. within days). (106) (figure 2)
In males, androgens initiate important masculine characteristics such as facial hair growth, voice deepening, spermatogenesis, penis growth and sexual behavior. (1) In a developed male, androgens maintain a masculine physique and sexual function. The anabolic (tissue building) effect of androgens involve the increased retention of amino acids, glucose and electrolytes by increasing the uptake of these nutrients in the blood, muscle and skeletal tissue. (5) Androgens also serve as the main substrate for estrogen formation. (figure 1)
Androgens can be converted to 19-norandrogens by the 10-demethylation enzyme, found primarily in the sexual organs such as the prostate. (4) 19-norandrogens have a reduced ability to convert to estrogen, however they posses the unique ability of activating the progesterone receptor (PR) which plays an important role in reducing inflammation, increasing glucose uptake in muscles, and possibly potentiating the anabolic action of androgens. (17-19,89,138) In addition, 19-norandrogens have a higher anabolic to androgenic ratio than other natural androgens, thus stimulating the growth of skeletal muscle tissue, over prostatic tissue. (46,63,65,67,70)
Estrogens – Background: Estrogens (aka., “estrogen”) are a group of steroid hormones (figure 1), that act upon the estrogen receptor (ER) to exert estrogenic effects. In males, estrogens have complimentary effects with androgens in maintaining fertility, cardiovascular, bone, and libido health. (20-24,34) Estrogens can also increase the anabolic response from androgens by increasing growth hormone (GH), insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), circulatory development, and nutrient uptake by muscle tissue, thereby enhancing the growth of skeletal muscle. (5,20-25,138) Maintaining a balanced level of saturated androgens and estrogens is
important for maintaining a masculine physique while maintaining optimal health. (20-33)
Androgens and estrogens are produced by two major pathways -
Testicular production: Blood levels of androgens and estrogens are largely controlled by the hypothalamic pituitary testicular axis (HPTA). In response to low androgens or estrogen, the pituitary releases luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which travel to the testes to initiate conversion of cholesterol to androgens. (34) Androgens are converted to estrogens by interaction with the aromatase enzyme, especially in areas with high concentration of the aromatase enzyme, such as adipose tissue. (6,20,28) A secondary source of androgens and estrogens are secreted from the adrenal glands, which are controlled by a similar feedback mechanism as the HPTA. (20)
Suboptimal Androgens Effect on body composition
The anabolic action of androgens increases the accrual of lean muscle tissue, while inhibiting the storage of fat tissue. (7,40-44) (table 1). Men with low androgens (and possibly estrogens) have difficulty improving body composition, despite exercise or diet intervention. (45-48,112-114) In addition, exercise reduces androgen levels in men, making physiological improvements increasingly difficult. (98) Supplementation with androgens ensures androgen levels stay elevated, even in conjunction with resistance training, thus enhancing the response from exercise, and rapidly improving body composition. (45-48)
Combining androgens which heavy resistance exercise increases the myotropic (muscle building) response. An increased number of nuclei are essential to support a substantial increase in muscle size. (figure 3) (133-134) The muscle tissue that is accrued during the administration of androgens, gains an increased number of nuclei. Research suggests that the increased nuclei obtained from androgen use, stays elevated in muscle tissue, even after discontinuation of androgens — and thus possess increased resistance to muscle loss after discontinuation of exercise, while also gaining a greater potential for growth from retraining. (133-136) This effect of androgens is a long-term, or possibly permanent. (135-136)
Part of the anabolic and fat oxidizing effects of androgens are due to conversion to estrogen, since blockage of estrogen reduces the recomposition effect of androgens. (24,25) In regards to skeletal muscle growth, androgens (e.g. DHT) regulate 187 genes, while estrogens (E2) regulate 51 genes — having largely unique effects from each other. (25) Therefore, it is desirable to elevate both androgens with estrogens to activate the full spectrum of myotropic genes.
In addition, 19-norandrogens have the unique ability to increase non-insulin mediated uptake of glucose and amino acids into muscle tissue. (17-19) This may partially explain the ability of 19-norandrogens (e.g. 19-nortestosterone) to increase lean muscle growth roughly 2x more than other androgens (e.g. testosterone). (46,63,65,67,70) Paradoxically, 19-norandrogens have a sodium excreting effect, which may help reduce water retention and prevent elevated blood pressure. (137)
Estrogen and progestagens (e.g. 19-norandrogens) may have a synergistic effect in reducing joint stiffness by exerting anti-inflammatory action upon the joint tissue. (89,90) This effect is related to activation of a T-helper 2 (TH2) response, thus suppressing pro-inflammatory TH1, and promoting an anti-inflammatory environment. This may improve performance, and offer physical comfort during heavy resistant exercise designed to stimulate muscle tissue growth.

ANDRO FACTORY MAX-BULK natural androgens: 4-DHEA (3-beta-enanthoyloxyandrost-4-en-17-one), and 19-DHEA (3-beta-enanthoyloxynorandrost-4-en-17-one) are androgens produced naturally in the human body by metabolism of DHEA. (4,38,39,49-56) 4-DHEA, and 19-DHEA both serve as a precursors to aromatizable androgens. (Figure 4)
In the body, the unesterified form of 4-DHEA is naturally generated by the 3b-hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase (HSOR) and isomerase conversion of 4-androstenedione. (38,39)
The unesterified form of 19-DHEA is naturally generated by the 3b-hydroxysteroid oxidoreductase (HSOR) and isomerase conversion of 4-androstenedione, and further 10-demethylation. (4,38,39)

Preferred nutrient distribution: The androgens 4-DHEA and 19-DHEA will support an anabolic environment within the body — through androgenic, estrogenic, progestogenic action. This can allow for profound increases in muscle size with minimal risk of androgenic related side-effects such as prostate swelling, hair loss, acne or general irritability. (63,65,67)
Pharmacokinetics: One daily dose of MAX-BULK can mimic the body’s natural 24hr rise and fall of androgen levels, which is important for optimal health. MAX-BULK delivers the natural androgens in the Proprietary CP+R™ Hormone Transport Complex. This is a slow melting, self emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS), in a softgel optimized for lymphatic delivery of natural androgens. (73-81) Uptake through the lymphatic system allows the androgens to reach the blood, while helping avoid the first pass through the liver. 4-DHEA and 19-DHEA can both be metabolized by 17b-HSD and 3a/b-HSD pathways. Both steroids can be conjugated and largely excreted within 24-48hrs in the urine as a glucuronide or sulfate. (49-56,66) Current anti-doping analytical methods may detect metabolites for up to 21 days after supplementation. (82,108)
Dosing & cycling: The recommended dose of MAX-BULK is 6 softgels taken daily, upon rising. The recommended cycle length is 4-8 weeks. Cycles longer than 8 weeks are expected to be safe, however a longer recovery period should be expected, and additional ancillaries may be needed. (83, 84) If planning to cycle longer than 8 weeks, we recommend seeking advice from a hormone specialist for proper cycling and recovery guidelines.
Post cycle therapy (PCT): After each 4-8 week cycle, it is recommended to start post cycle therapy (PCT) immediately after the last MAX-BULK dose, and continue PCT for 4 weeks. A longer PCT may be required for longer or more complex stacks.

Kidneys: MAX-BULK shows no signs of kidney toxicity upon examination of serum and urinary renal panel before, during and after 4-8 weeks of use in adult male subjects. Prostate: MAX-BULK showed minor increases in “urge to urinate”, and “urinary frequency” in adult male subjects when examined by questionnaire. This suggests that benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) may be a side-effect in some men. Research shows that long-term saturated androgen supplementation does not increase prostate cancer risk, and BPH is a temporary side-effect of high androgen levels. (68, 88)
Adrenal glands: MAX-BULK may mildly reduce urinary cortisol excretion (cortisone regeneration) and serum cortisol levels. (72,109)
Joints: MAX-BULK does not appear to be associated with increased joint discomfort or stiffness in adult male subjects when examined by questionnaire. However, some individuals may see benefits with reduced joint stiffness and discomfort. This effect is likely related to a suppression of T-helper (TH1) lymphocytes, and reduced inflammation. (89, 90)
Heart: MAX-BULK appears to have minimal effects on the HDL/LDL cholesterol ratio, and atherogenic values upon examination of the Atherotech VAP® test before, during and after 4-8 weeks of use in adult male subjects. Mild reductions in HDL, or mild increases in LDL may be seen after prolonged use (beyond 8 weeks) of MAX-BULK due to the androgenic action. (33,65,91) These unfavorable changes may be avoidable with a cholesterol friendly nutrition program.

Sexual function: MAX-BULK appears to have positive or neutral effects on libido, erectile function and overall sexual performance in adult male subjects when examined by questionnaire.
Hair growth: MAX-BULK does not appear to increase hair shedding (fallout) in adult male subjects when examined by questionnaire. MAX-BULK has a moderate/high androgenic potency, which may accelerate hair loss in individuals who are prone to androgenic alopecia. However, obesity and diet appear to be more strongly correlated with this condition. (2) Androgenic alopecia generally appears by age 20 as a receding line along the far corners of the forehead. If increased hair shedding occurs, MAX-BULK may be discontinued or the dose may be adjusted downward to eliminate this side-effect.
Neuroactivity: MAX-BULK contains a neuro-balanced mix of ß-DHEA and a-DHEA designed to have a low/moderate excitatory neurological effect, which should promote motivational energy and positive aggression. (Table 2) Some subjects reported minor sleep disturbances during the first 7-10 days of use. Minimal impact on sleeping patterns will be seen if MAX-BULK is taken immediately upon waking. Natural “relaxation” or “sleep promoting” herbal products may be used to assist in a restful night’s sleep.
Gastrointestinal: MAX-BULK users reported no stomach or intestinal upset when examined by questionnaire. Research suggests the digestive track can safely process, transport and absorb large amounts of steroids. (110,111)
Naturally, during normal digestion, the stomach and intestines process and resorb a large amount of bile acid (steroid acid) excreted from the gallbladder.
