A mysterious flu takes the life of a healthy young bodybuilder.
A 21-year-old bodybuilder named Kyler Baughman has shockingly died within days of being diagnosed with the flu.
The young man was devoted to physical fitness.
HIS MOTHER BEVERLY BAUGHMAN TOLD WXPI, “HE WAS GOING TO SCHOOL TO BE A PERSONAL TRAINER.”
However, when visiting home for the holidays, Kyler was noticeably ill.
“WE SAW HIM THE 23RD FOR OUR FAMILY CHRISTMAS GET-TOGETHER AND WE NOTICED HE WASN’T FEELING WELL. HE LOOKED RUNDOWN AND HAD A BIT OF A SNOTTY NOSE. I THINK HE THOUGHT, ‘I JUST GOT THE FLU, I’LL BE ALRIGHT. I’LL GO REST A LITTLE BIT.’”
His fiancée said that Kyler didn’t think much of the illness.
“HE KINDA JUST LAID DOWN AND WENT ABOUT HIS DAY AND THAT WAS THE DAY HE WAS COUGHING AND SAID HIS CHEST HURT, HE HAD A MILD COUGH.”
However, less than two days later, Kyler’s symptoms increased severely. He checked himself into Westmoreland County emergency room, and when he continued to deteriorate, he was airlifted UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh where he died within 24 hours- officially of organ failure due to septic shock caused by influenza.
It’s unknown how Kyler’s fitness pursuits may have affected the illness. Usually young and healthy people are less susceptible to common viruses such as influenza. Intuitively, the most at risk populations are the very young and very old. Kyler had not receive any sort of flu immunization in 2017.
Most lifters know that training during a sickness can be a bit of a gamble. It either seems to stimulate recovery, pushing one through the illness with movement and blood flow, or it just serves as extra depletion, helping the illness to linger.
It doesn’t seem as if Kyler attempted to train through the illness or took any drastic action. Still his father urges people to take influenza seriously.
“TRY AND KNOW YOUR BODY; DON’T LET THINGS GO. WHENEVER YOU HAVE A FEVER AND YOU HAVE IT MULTIPLE DAYS, DON’T LET IT GO. GET IT TAKEN CARE OF.”
